Vacuum solenoid, C5 car diesel. Correct hose locations
Hi All,
I'm desperate to solve a few problems of my C5, through here i found a few, but after spending good money on a new part it's still not right.
So I'm trying to find out what the physical hose connections are for the vacuum system, mainy the ERG solenoid.
The engine schematics show a 4 solenoid set up and tracing the hose is not possible. My C5 is a 3 solenoid setup
So my finding was that the ERG hose, which seems to have a green ring printed on the end was on the port which did not have the green rubber ring located, also the diameter of the hose was different than the vac hose which made it slip off easily.
So logic says the hoses were switched, but it could be the case that it did not follow the colour coding to be correct.
The pic shows the valve, and how I found it when I removed it.
I hope someone has a working engine and the right connections so I can get this solved so I can the solve the other errors I have on the car diagnostics

Here's the actual function:
(1) Proportional electrovalve.
"a" Vacuum inlet.
"b" Vacuum outlet.
"c" breather.
"d" 2-way black connector.
Make: BITRON/PIERBURG
The solenoid valve is a solenoid valve that is normally closed.

Here is the diagram from service citroen which I have saved prior to the changes
It shows the vaccum pipes and where they fit on the solenoid valves.

Solving the vacuum hoses has now given me another problem,
There is an oily substance coming from the hose connecting the exhaust cooler to the EGR manifold,
Any suggestion to fault find this or shall I put a new post for this.

I can't find any blockage, other than the mechanical valve in the manifold.
I just removed the lower hose under the engine and a pool of ..I presume oil ... ran out.
So some where after the plastic ducting goes up in the engine it's adding oil to the exhaust return.

Sorry, I wish I could use the tech term.
The 2 inch hose which runs from the EGR manifold (in reverse) then connected to the small radiator which I guess cools the exhaust, then on the bottom off the radiator goes onto a plastic pipe which then connects with a small rubber house to a metal pipe going up again.
The bottom hose had a pool of oil in it, which then found it's way up to the EGR valve, but it seeped Thru the to connection of the radiator, probably of the pressure when the EGR valve was close.
So that's what happened when I replaced the EGR control solenoid and connected the vacuum hoses correctly.
It's seems the previous owners did not look after the engine very well. But am determined to get it back perfect.

If you could photograph the pipe concerned as I still can't understand which hose you refer to.

Here are the photo to illustrate the fault. The blue illustrate where the oil was finding it way out and where I found a pool of oil in the hose.

Okay I know the hose you refer to, these are the turbo air hoses.
Now I believe you can get a little oil here, some of the other guys and gals will be able to confirm or not.

Hose 3 does not exists on my engine , both ends are blanked off as per original design
So if understand correctly, the turbo is pushing air from the air filter into the manifold , part 7,
So where is it getting oil from, the error codes are saying something is wrong in this system.
Maybe some one can guide me towards finding this, I'm desperate to get this engine tip top again.
If hose 3 is a bypass of the heat exchanger, then the error code P14A4, confirming the bypass is jammed shut makes me believe the system is unaware of the setup.
I'm not sure that the LIN error communication with a node of the alternator network has something to do with.
The codes are the latest from the FAPlite app .

Here's a few more descriptors for some of those codes:
U1401: Alternator LIN network - recording the a fault on a slave node of the LIN network. Meaning there is a communication fault between ECUs detected for 3 secs.
Downgrade Modes whilst fault active:
Symptoms: Engine hesitating, cutting out, Starting problem, Lack of power
Suspect Area: Engine ECU
P0A1A: Alternator: Alternator communication fault. Alternator communication fault detected.
Again, battery warning light should be lit on dash.
Symptoms: Engine hesitating, cutting out, Starting problem
Suspect Areas: Alternator, Engine ECU.
P14A4: EGR exchanger by-pass: Confirmed locked shut (R.H. side) - Closed position of the EGR exchanger by-pass switch not reached after 4 seconds even though the control is below 5 %.
Whilst the fault is active, the by-pass of the EGR gasses is in operation.
Conditions for disappearance of the fault: Driving for 5 minutes from a cold engine, until the coolant temperature reaches 80°C.
Symptoms: None obvious.

- Air mixer
- Turbocharger air cooler
- The variable geometry of the turbocharger is locked ; Turbocharger discharge insufficient
- Turbocharger solenoid valve
- Position indicator of the turbocharger
- Exhaust gas recycling valve
- Electric EGR valve position copy sensor
- EGR exchanger bypass
- Exhaust gas recirculation line
- Electrical harnesses
