Parking sensor in front of a 2009 C5 x7 tourer.

Unread post by Tiagovp »

Hello everyone.

My c5 tourer only has a parking sensor at the rear. In the front there is not. Has anyone done a DYS ( do yourself) sensor assembly on the front where you can get some ideas?
Thank you for your help.

You can't retrofit the OEM system as the harness won't be there and you will also need a different parking assistance ECU and the parking space gap measurement switch - so not practical as you won't have the correct wiring loom or ECU.

Hello Marc.

Thanks for the answer. I may not have expressed myself well about the sensor.
I wanted to put one already with a reading unit. I leave an example:

Ok, so you want to fit an aftermarket one.

All I would say is don't attempt to wire it into the vehicle's existing wiring systems or you may cause faults in other systems. These vehicles are multiplexed - so send coded signals on the various data networks to the various ECUs on the vehicle. Tapping into one of these networks can cause a breakdown. If you are thinking about fitting one, then make sure it is compatible with CAN vehicles or can be wired in such a way as not to interfere with the vehicle's systems.

Citroen did provide 2 after-sales reverse parking assistance systems (one a sticky strip inside the rear bumper and another that had ultra sonic sensors drilled into the rear bumper), but nothing for the front.

Obviously the rear system needed to tap into the reversing light wiring to activate, but there won't be anything like that on front, so I guess it may be permanently active on the front.

I would think a switched feed from the battery would make sense for the front.
We had Peugeot vans at work a few years ago with permanently live front sensors.
Real PITA as they would be set of by exhaust smoke(worse in winter),people walking inbetween vehicles etc. Worse if you are in stop/start traffic and forget to leave a big enough gap.

I just fitted an aftermarket kit to the rear that has smaller sensors so fits in the OEM holes perfectly.
Got mine on Amazon for 19.99 with UK stock.

I bought the car 6 months ago. The front parking sensors don't work for me. I disassembled and saw that the ECU was for rear sensors only (no input for white connector). I also have some cable you can see in the picture. Can I buy a new ECU? What is this other cable for?
Thank you!

The parking assistance ECUs are different depending on options. You will also need the correct wiring harness - but you'll need to explain a little more about the car.

Are you saying it looks like the car has factory fitted front and rear sensors and the 2 sensors on the front wings for the parking space gap measurement?

If this is the case, it may be that a previous owner has replaced the parking assistance ECU with the wrong one.

What is the year of the C5, the trim level (VTR, VTR+ Exclusive), Saloon or Tourer, the VIN would be best.

I wonder if the front bumper has been replaced in the past, the replacement was sourced from a scrap car (same colour), and it had sensors fitted to it?

So your car had front and rear assistance originally. That ECU in your picture is the wrong one.

If you want the correct part number, I'll need to look it up for you, but unfortunately PSA charge for this data now from 16th March 2020. Please see the info below - a Forum donation will cover you for up to 2 years for parts info etc.
A response to your question will require detailed vehicle information that requires you to have made a current contribution to the Forum.

Hi, I fitted OEM front parking sensors to my 2011 C5, Exclusive so it can be done, however:
  • as Marc said you will need, Citroen ECU, the Peugeot 405 ECU's are similar but will not work on A C5, as they ony register 4 sensors and not 6. Trust me I found out the hard way.
  • Front sensors, either OEM or from online shopping sites (E**y/Am***n)
  • The Front behind bumber wiring harness,
  • Sensor Supports for the Side sensors, look similar to those in photo by elcustardo
  • Sensor Supports for the two positions in the front grille (I got these printed as they are expensive)
  • Sensor supports, for the outer front sensor, these are two peices of plastic cowl(OEM)
  • Patients as fitting it knuckle grinding.
  • You will also have to drilled the side holes in you bumper, without damaging the paint and get the two sensors for here coloured to match you car or it will look naff
  • Using diagnostic equipment 'Tell' the radio & display that they have been fitted.
I looked into fitting aftermarket ones and could not find a way to get all the sensor wires into the cabin without drilling a new hole.

And "If this is the case, it may be that a previous owner has replaced the parking assistance ECU with the wrong one." - is it the correct, for the model, front bumper! #-o

Hi Stu - I've already confirmed he has OEM factory fitted front and rear so he should have everything already there - but the Parking Assistance ECU has obviously been replaced at some point - as the part number on the unit in his photo is not for this vehicle.

The blue ink marker scribble would suggest it's from a dismantler, so wrong choice?
