Peugeot 207 ABS pump

Post by Shaz61 »

Hi, I wondered if someone could help me please.

I own a 2007 Peugeot 207cc with a faulty ABS pump. I have been trying to find a used one but have been told I haven’t got the correct serial no. The one I have been providing starts ‘1009’ but have been told that I need the one starting with ‘96’. My mechanic rechecked the pump but could not find any other serial no’s so I contacted Peugeot & the only part number they could provide for the pump was 4541Z3. I have searched using this part number & have found matches but I’m not sure just cos the part number is the same that the pump will work in my car.

Any assistance/ guidance would be very much appreciated. Shaz

Hello, and :welc: to the Forum. Might I suggest, as a first step, you post up the vehicle VIN (which will, for security reasons, be obscured so only Moderators can read it), so that a Moderator can look up your vehicle and let you know the correct part number for the ABS pump for your car (it may turn out Peugeot is correct with that part number).

Put your VIN number (from the outside lower passenger windscreen - in the cut out) here - it begins VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. The ABS pump consists of an electronic control unit (ECU) and the hydraulic block. Depending on what is wrong you can either replace the whole unit or keep the ECU part and just replace the block. If your replace with another unit it will need coding to ensure the parameters are correct for your vehicle. If you retain the your existing ECU and just replace the block then it won't need coding.

One I have your VIN I can check the correct PSA part number.

He can't read it - only staff can.

So the parts are no longer available new from Peugeot - but there are 2:

Item 1 in the diagram:
207 ABS.PNG
4541 Z3 or
4541 Z4

The difference being one is pre-configured to the vehicle and the other is configured afterwards - but I've supplied both.

Can I butt-in and ask if the same would apply to my 2000 Xantia HDi - I intend to swap mine with a second-hand ABS block & ECU set ?

Yes, as long as you are replacing the exact same ABS block then the ECU is removable and swappable. Pop your VIN up so I can double check your model.

So a second-hand ABS block & ECU set both off the same scrap car would need coding :?: Unless I use the original ABS block :?:

Yes, if there’s nothing wrong with your ECU best to keep,it then you can just attach it to the new block and refit,

454142 is the block part number.

Hi Marc, apologies for not getting back sooner.
Thanks for the information unfortunately my mechanic has advised me that I need the whole unit changed so I assume that whichever part I buy will need coded (Z3 or Z4).
In my earlier post I was looking for the serial number starting ‘96’ for my unit as I was told if I could match this number with one on a used pump I wouldn’t need to have it coded. Is there anyway of tracing this number for my unit or am I just wasting everyone’s time trying to find it.
Thanks again for your help with this problem.

Those manufacturer numbers will likely only be listed on your actual ABS unit itself - you may need to clean the area of the casing to see it or the label if present.

The part numbers I have issued are correct so if you search on ‘Peugeot 4541Z3’ or Z4 you should find parts that may also have the 96 number. You just need to compare it to yours to make sure it is the same.

I’m surprised that your mechanic hadn’t been able to diagnose whether it is the ABS ECU or the actual ABS hydraulic block that is faulty though.... however if you are going second hand, you may find more of the units are supplied whole. But use the ‘4541Z3’ for searching as that would be the preconfigured one for your car.

Thanks Marc, I’ve already asked my mechanic to check for the label but unfortunately it’s no longer there.☹️.
As to what the problem is my mechanic has just told me it’s a problem with a sensor in the valve block causing an issue with the ECU.
It’s been an ongoing saga for quite awhile & has left me with a car I can’t drive cos it won’t pass the MOT so I really appreciate the time you have taken to help me with this problem.
