Hood hinge replacement

Post by SuperMajinBuu »

Hi.

Had a breakdown in a tunnel about a week ago. (I posted the alternator belt problem couple days ago). New problems arise. The road assistance came in about 5 minutes and offered to lend me a battery booster to the nearest parking spot. They didn't warn me to not go too fast so ofcourse the hood flipped on my windscreen since it wasn't secured with the hook. I completely forgot about that. #-o

The left hinge is broken, right one might be okay. The hood and windshield are okay as well. How hard is it to replace? I will get the hinges off a scrap car I guess. Doesn't matter which color they are.
I tried googling and searching this forum but haven't found any answers.

VIN:
VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Thanks!

The diagram is below - the bonnet hinges are item number 2 - HOWEVER - for your build date, they do not list this as a part.

Your DAM number (build date) is 10181. None of the parts listed are for your vehicle as you can see, so I'm not sure what the significance of this is. Perhaps they were welded on to your car? When I use your VIN, item 2 is not available.

Thanks for your reply. I had a look today and have no idea where the two fastening bolts are. They are somehow hidden between the side panel (bodywork) and the metal plate/frame inside the engine bay.
No way of accesing from the engine bay it seems because I can't see any bolts. Possibly you have to take the side panel off and access from there? But I have no idea how to get that thing off :) I found two plastic torx screws that you half turn to detach it from there but then I am left scratching my head. Surely they had to make it so that this could be replaced.

Here is a pic of a spare part that I found.

yes, those look like they are the part No 2 in my diagram with the bonnet stay shown. They look to have 3 bolts holding them on (part 70), but odd that they are not shown as available separately for your model.

Any idea how to get the side panel off? :)
The part I found is off a hatchback model. Maybe it's different to a coupe one..

I'll have a look at this for your tomorrow - just skimming through some of the data now - it refers to balancing and centering equipment for attaching the wing supports and bonnet - so I would be a bit cautious for now about undoing any bolts in case it gets worse.

I'll post up some info for you in the morning :)

Ok, this is to remove the bonnet only:
C4 Bonnet.PNG
Uncouple the windscreen washer hose ( 1).
Slacken the bolts (3).

Remove:
The bolts (3)
The bonnet (2)
The other part I was looking at concerning the centring was for the side wing supports.

Thank you so much for your help. Too kind!
So there is no way to replace this?
Or do you need to remove the side skirt/panel?

I think the plate fixing itself is part of the wing supports and those need centring equipment if removed or they won’t align properly.

Okay I see. It's never easy is it? :) So best would be to take into the shop see what they say.
We can close this thread for now I guess. I will post info when and if I get this fixed. Might be of use to someone else.

The hinges do appear to be under the wings. The instructions open by saying remove bumper, headlights, mud shields and wings.... Whilst there are instructions and special templates for aligning the wings, I'm pretty sure if you mark the hinge, and only take off one side, you should be able to get it right with a couple of wing on and offs.
