I have an , apparently intermittent fault, and want to do some diagnosis before I take it to be fixed I suspect failing insulation somewhere. Does any one have or know where to source info on the ABS ECU ie which pins are earth, sensors etc.

had a similar problem with the ABS on my Xantia that started as an intermittent sensor fault (intermittent light) but then progressed to a full blown light on all the time.

Sorry Keriso I can't help with your problem but on the subject of strange behaviour, what do you all make of this, my blower motor speed's up when the brake light's come on, is my Xantia the only one to do this, I would be amazed and very gratefull if anybody can put their finger on the cause of this, of all the cars i've had there hasn't been one...

Jack up and support the front of the car enough to clear the bell housing, drain the gearbox of oil, release the lower ball joint from the hub carrier, swing the suspension leg outwards while pulling the driveshaft from the diff, you will need to support both the cluth end of the engine and also the gearbox, don't rely on trying to balance...

I grown very tired of how bad the breaks become after repetedely hard use.
I know that the discs has about 10mm greater diameter but will this become a problem?

Overheating Saxo VTR

I am having problems with my VTR getting hotter and hotter as it is driven.
1) The fan works ok
2) There seems to be an airlock somewhere in the system (I can hear the gurgling when it is started up)

Sounds very much like a problem I had, and it was the accumulator. Changing this was fairly simple after looking at the advice from this forum. See Xantia suspension and brakes. I used the jubilee clib method to remove the sphere from the start and had no problems. Happy sphere changing.

I drive a 1998 Xantia 2.1TD SX which is fitted with 205/60x15's. As far as I can see the steel rims are the same size as the 1.9 versions. The only draw back is that you don't get such a wide range of budget tyres in 205 size. But replacement Michelins do give a lovely ride!

Well sounds almosst certainly like teh head again. Sometimes there are minute cracks around the valve ports which even with skimming will cause problems.
Best to get these checked before spending money on the head. Soem palces use X-Rays to spot these failings.

This not an answer, more of an additional question. It's just that I am about to clean out and replace LHM. I noticed that one of the four hoses that clip to the side of the tank does not go connect to anything. Is it just a breather ?

I found mine at the bottom of the tank (courtesy of a previous owner) whilst cleaning tank out etc. I think it should be fitted to one of the holes within the filter...

Tel, if you have replaced both the belt and the pump, then the only thing that can be causing this is the belt roller tensioner. They send to get noisy as they get older. I have replaced this part on my last 2 ZX's.

The oil filter is on the front of the engine, look behind the radiator, and you should see it, slightly towards the drivers side of the car.

Firstly, if the car clicks a lot ie more than once every minute or so then the accumulator sphere is knackered and needs replacement. The LHM should be changed every 60,000 miles or thereabouts. I would always recommend using hydraflush at this point to give the whole system a clean, this should be run in the car for around 1000 miles and...

Your brake judder sounds like disc run out to me, you should measure disc run out with a dial test indicator, the maximum run out as specified in the Haines manual is 0.05mm that's about 2 thou, however if you have checked this on the outer face and it was ok, go and check the inner face, there could be a differing thicknes on the...

The change on AX shafts in 1991 was the length, the 91> shafts are slightly longer. The reason for this was that Citroen increased the track (width) of the AX in 91 to give better roadholding. It also meant that the entire front suspension and driveshafts could be shared with the then new Peugeot 106 models.

I don't know anything about ZX petrols(!), but maybe this will help you:
Anti-clock should undo the plug (the one on my xantia was pretty stiff).
As far as I know, the radiator should be reverse flushed (usually hosepipe into bottom hose of rad) and its a good idea to flush through the engine block as well before refilling to make sure its all...

From what you say about it sounding like a tank it look's like your cylinder head gasket is a gonner, I did a head gasket on a ZX 1.9TD a couple of years ago, on that occasion though it caused coolant to escape and gases to pressurize the cooling system, I did it with the engine still in the car and it was an unpleasant experience, if I had to...

Further to my post of 14th May, I have now been under the car and discover that the rear of the engine casing is absolutely covered in oil. There is obviously a gasket or seal blown somewhere. To reiterate:

TD glow plugs

When I replaced the glow plugs on my Xantia TD I cursed those designers at Citroen.
In answer to your question, a five minute job on any normal car takes several hours on the Xantia.

Is there any easy way to get glow plugs out of a TD or special tools etc? I'm finding it extremely hard to get at the first two (timing belt end). Is it really necessary to dismantle everything in the way?

Citroen ZX 1.8i Petrol smell

Whenever I fill in the petrol almost full, the next day I can smell the petrol at the rear of my car. I try to look for the spot but could not find it. What could be the cause of the problem ? Is the tank leak ? Thanks.

I used a JR performance air filter in my ZX TD for nearly 80,000 miles use, washed it occasionally with the proper cleaner, then oiled it, it lasted just fine.
There was a very slight increase in performance.

I think I have solved it by inserting a long UNC high tensile bolt of slightly over size (13/32 I think)into the bottom most hole, after removing the longitudinal member and jacking the engine and box up to close the slight gap. The next bolt up (in front of engine close to oil pan joint with engine block) is doing no work as the web has broken...

Header tank!

I have a (cleaned) plastic oil can with the bottom cut out. The neck of the can fits inside the header tank and is then packed round with Blu-tack wrapped in plastic sheet to make it (reasonably) water-tight.

Hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong here but a working fuel pump is not required to start the car if the fuel filter reservoir is full and there is no air in the system after that.

ZX - Loss of performance since belt change

The tension is by automatic adjustment. It sounds as though one of the sprockets is one or two teeth out. Several years ago I fitted a belt on my BX and did the same thing. The engine sounded awful. I should get it checked again.

I've always been one for changing the oil at regular intervals (5-6000 miles), which must stem from being in the trade as a wee lad when that was the norm. Nowadays service intervals are stretching ever longer, my Berlingo diesel is 10000 miles (the HDi is 12000!). I think this is far too long to leave oil in an engine. I'd like to know other...

My Xantia 1.9 td seems to lack power, the engine runs smoothly, does not burn oil or lose coolant. Its service history is up to date, all the filters are new, injectors serviced etc.
I previously owned a 1.9 normally aspirated diesel BX which was far more torquey, and returned much better fuel economy.
Has anyone any ideas?
