I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Xantia Locking Fuel cap Problem

Ok, tricky one. Is your Xantia the sort whereby the fuel flap itself is locked via the central locking? i.e. when you lock the doors it locks the flap too?.Or do you have to use the key to unlock the fuel filler cap?
Please advise, and I'll see if I can assist.

Xantia CV Joint

I would get this checked carefully before proceeding further.
If the CV joint was worn, you would get a clicking noise when you were turning. Its not possible to buy just the joint for a Xantia- its a complete shaft.
I would also get the bottom balljoint, and front arm bushes checked out before you proceed.

Rear Arm Bearings On a Xantia 1.9TD SX

It is almost certain that the rear arm bearings require replacement, I would assume that the car has covered a fair mileage.The bearings (2 per arm) wear because they are so small in relation to the weight and movement that they have to cope with.

Neil,
Have you checked out the linkages which go from each of the front struts to the anti-roll bar? There are joints at the end of these linkages and even with a small amount of wear in them it sounds if the front of the car is going to come off! You can certainly feel the knocks through the floor pan.

I thought that alll Xantia petrols had the diagnostic socket under the steering wheel, inside the car. have a look, there should be a small flap you remove. I'm not sure if your code reader will plug into it though, is a large multipin connection..............

I would suggest you either have an auto electrician look at the charging system or alternatively put a meter on the car to check on the charge rate. It should charge at 13.8 to 14.6 volts from memory, & I would suspect that yours would be in excess of that. Probable cause a dodgy voltage regulator. My guess is that you're cooking your...

You don't say what sort of AX you have- I'm assuming the petrol engined type! If so, it is very unlikely that simply putting unleaded in it would cause this trouble, basically, any petrol engined AX will run unleaded, no trouble, but you may have to reset the ignition timing on some models.
It sounds more to me like some fuel contamination, ie...

Put in unleaded by mistake, drove 400 yards and topped up with 4 star. Apart from huge smoke for two miles seemed OK.
Sold to co-worker who complained of fumes driving it home. Had all oil seals done, but still problems. Dealer said he has to remove engine as he has no idea. I've now got her back and need diagnostic advice, please.

Just to let you know, that if you are fitting the new type Citroen/Peugeot oil filter,ref 1109R1 or 1109R0 (Purflux LS304),
in order to enjoy the longer service intervals that this filter offers, use only with semi or fully synthetic oil (total Q7000 or Q9000). This applies to vehicles after the 1999 model year.

for my citroen xantia S2 1998 1.9TD estate I bought what appeared to be a pretty good drivers door with great looking hinges after my original door top hinge failed miserably.

I had it sprayed the right colour from silver to dark blue and with some help managed to get it fitted to the car.

the top hinge lasted exactly four months before it...

Sorry to keep going on about headlights but Ive heard a rumour that you can switch the beam in headlights from RHD to LHD for driving on the right.
Is this true as it will save me some money. And does it apply to Xantia 1 and 2 if so ;

The adjusters talked about on the actual headlights with two settings are for winter/summer driving I believe as I had these on my 205 GTi which I had to sell :cry: :( . I'm sure it actually said summer / winter on the adjusters but I never changed them. I would assume that they would be higher on the winter setting though.

It's in the door lock mechanism. Before doing anything though look inside the rubber sleeve from body to door frame. I'm 99% sure you will find a broken wire. :idea:

I know it's not a straight swap as the mounting holes are in different places but it is only plastic that it fixes too. I wish I could find the original post (it may have been on the GSF forum before it closed though).

Changed it this morning now everything is fine. One end was as slack as could be so I cut the rubber off to find it almost total dry. Also it was full of dirt and grime. Anyway filled the new one with grease as Anders recommended (this was bone practically dry as well) so hopefully we will get a bit more than 9 months use out of it. Cheers for all...

Fuel Pump Update

Morning Everyone, just to inform you that all is well now the fuel pump has been replaced. First of all I changed the fuel filter as advised but this made no difference unfortunately. So I bit the bullet and replaced the pump which has cured the problem of noise and vibration. Although, reading other posts and advice from my previous post...

Last weekend whilst working on the car I changed the clock as it kept going back to default time & date. Anyway all was well for 3 days then the new one does the same. I have since found out and linked it to the CD player. Now when I don't use the CD player all is well so why would using the CD player stop the clock working any ideas? Oh it's a...

The CD player is connected to the original loom using the original adapters (no cutting or bodging) which works as it should i.e no memory loss and it turns on and off with the ignition so that would seem O.K. Help! I think it's curtains for the fuel pump!!!

Looks like I may need to change the low pressure fuel pump this weekend. It has just started to groan deeply when the ignition is switched on. Instead of a nice high pitch buzz. Is there anything to look out for other than having the replacement O ring. I am getting the pump from GSF today or tomorrow hopefully. Any advice really appreciated....

I did try the fuel filter first on reading your previous post pikecrazy but it was still noisy afterwards so I thought bugger it and changed the pump. Now all is well so far, but i'm off to nottingham tommorrow (210 miles) so we'll find out then.

It's a shame I had a bad experience with them. Booked in a service asking will it be the same service that Citroen do at this millage . this included a LHM change, yes came the reply. I also asked about greasing the height correctors which they said they would do. Unfortunately they did neither they did an oil and filters change £70 - £80 quids...

Xantia clock removal

I recently needed to remove the clock from my Xantia 1.9TD to change the bulb - pre-facelift model, where the clock is situated below the centre ventilation nozzles and sits between the alarm light and the hazard warning switch, but after reading the Haynes manual I thought it might be easier to change the car.

That's what you need. I had the same thing done on my 90bhp hdi. It's now up to a claimed 115bhp and it whips our company 110 bhp pug 405 estate. Cheers Simon, I will leave them alone. Could I have the wrong ones already then as the reason for wanting to change is that the rear suspension is very boomy in the drivers seat, especially the near side. The noise isn't so bad in the rear or passanger seats and It's still quite a smooth ride. I changed them last year with pattern ones from GSF...

My HRW wasnt working on my Xantia and after chacking the relay I decided to check power to the window itself. Power was there. :wink:

The lock doesn't always lock (I know problem dodgy solenoid just needs replacing), Wiper sometimes stops (open then close boot solves this), light doesn't come on (wiggle boot lid until it does), alarm sensor keeps triggering (cable tied it down to stop play where it clips on). You could service only the front ones, has apparently there is no need to get rid of still good rear ones.
Those 20.000 miles were hwo long ago?
If i'm not mistaken, shelf life is around 2 years. You could always build yourself a sphere pressure tester to see how they are going along, and if needed regass the. By the time,as they weren't serviced,...

Hi everyone, Replaced all the sphere's about 20'000 miles ago with Amtex jobbies. Anyway the front is getting bouncy again. Should I just replace the two front one's or should I do the lot. I have seen Westroen sphere's on e-bay £150 for a full set that are up to genuine Citroen spec.
Does this look good or should I just change the 2 in Question....

If you can expain more clearly what you want I will try some experiments on my estate.
If I understand you correctly you mean that the side doors have a pert latched condition where they are neither fully shut but cannot be opened without using the handle. On my estate rear door I just let it shut under its own weight and it normally...

As you have probably seen in other posts my boot catch is duff. Could someone with an estate please let me know does your boot lid do just 1 click or 2 (like the doors) when you close it. I belive the problem with mine setting off the alarm is because it will only ever do the 1st click. If I open the boot and push the catch it does do 2 click's...
