I'm sure someone with much more knowledge will give you a more setailed answer but i beleive it has to do with front/rear weight distribution. I believe the ideal is 50%/50% but this is not always the case. Perhaps the xantia and c5 have differing ratios.
Of course it is more complex than this. I suppose it is to do with the transfer of weight...

The tyre selector pages give for the Xantia, 205/60x15 Energy tyres with pressures at 35/32 for standard use and 35/32 for fully loaded. Chap I work with had a BX diesel. The wiring caught fire a month ago while parked on his drive (electrical short to the block) and wrote it off with:
249,975 on the clock.

I would say the 405 sits between the BX and the Xantia.
The BX is a bit lighter so the same engine will give you a bit more performance. The Xantia is a more modern car but a lot heavier.
The suspension takes a little getting used to if you have never driven one before but after a while you won't want to go back to springs and dampers.

Well the system has worked for about a century although I am told that 2CVs never boil. The temperature at which the stat opens is fairly low and the radiator is amply able to withstand the thermal shock. I recently had a duff thermostat, allowing the coolant to flow into the radiator regardless of the engine temp.
It ocurred to me that the design of a cooling system is fundamentally flawed, and could result in engine damage.
Let me explain my theory..
Imagine a cold winters day, the engine is warming up nicely, the coolant in the radiator is stone...

As long as the driveshafts and wheel bearings are ok then why not? The 205 is a pleasant little car and if you can find a couple of decent doors then go for it. Spraying the nether regions with waxoyl helps them last longer and it may even work on the car, too. The GTI will always be the glamourpuss classic of the range but it is environmentally...

Best figures - normal driving, not being obviously economical.
1994 306 XTDT - 48mpg
1996 Rover 420Sdi - 54mpg
1998 Merc A170Cdi-68mpg on the north of Scotland Thurso - Ullapool.
1994 Xantia TD - 44mpg
Rover had the best 0-60 time.
Merc was better in gear - smooth and flexible.
306 was best around bends ( unless wet, when Merc was king )...

Autoglym is mildly abrasive. Take a little and , using a black cotton cloth wipe it over the roof which is likely to be the most oxidised bit. If there is no paint on the cloth it is lacquered.

hm, you can stop smiling. Loads of ZX diesels have suffered complete seizure after driving through floods, hydraulicing the engine. Turbo diesels draw their air a bit highre up and are not so badly affected. I'm alright then!

I've recently acquired a year 2000, Xantia 90hdi. Wanted the 110 but none available at my price range. This seems to go very well, much more sprightly than the 1994 td, with the XUD engine. It's better on fuel too, around 50mpg. Question is, what am I missing by not having the 110 hdi? I've never driven one, but understand they have an intercooler...

I like my ale to be gassey and fresh, the only way I could get that was to bottle it, stuffing it in kegs was convenient but not to my liking, and the constant pressure kegs are expensive and clumsy when you want to get at it.

For the last few days, my '98 Xantia 1.9 TD SX idle speed has been a bit fast at just over 1000 rpm. This is pretty much the speed you'd expect with the air-con on, so I wondered if there was a connection (turning the air-con on doesn't make any difference).
