I don't have knowledge of the Peugeot, but the issue of a loose connection is known with several makes of car.
I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

I can't provide answers to all of that lot but on the subject of discs.
Ok, all ZX's with vented discs (except the 16v) the discs are 247mm. The 16v uses 266mm discs.Although the 16v has 15 wheels the 266mm discs do fit with 14 wheels. As I mentioned before I'm going to fit 266mm discs with berlingo calipers (when I can find a decent set!)

Sorry Tom he's completely wrong. Take two engines in comparable condition and the TD will be smoother and quieter. I suppose it is just possible a 1.9 non-turbo may outlast a TD in extreme test conditions. But usually owner neglect is what kills these engines, not the issue of turbocharged or not.
In some circumstances I would have a BX 1.9...

one of my gurus asserts that though the td has more horses (yes and 53% more torque!) it is a rough engine compared to the 1905 diesel and bits rattle off it, usually pipes and ducting.

Sounds like you've got a few problems with this Omega; I would suggest trying a forum more specific to your problems,either a newsgroup (uk.rec.cars.maintenance is a good one - use Google) or search for Vauxhall Omega for English sites, as this is what it was badged in the UK.

Replace your cylinder head gasket. And get your cylinder head checked for cracks and possible distortion.
Don't ever drive your car when its overheating, if you continue to do so it will sieze up and will need a complete overhaul or replacement, and that won't be cheap!!

Xantia prices seem to be dropping fast.

As far as problems go, look at the production figures & relate that to the number of problems people experience.

That puts the percentage of problems into perspective.
Cause of the problems:
(a) Neglect through lack of routine servicing (ie)Changing fluid at correct intervals, checking sphere pressures...

NO!! They are GUIDELINES from ACPO to police officers in England and Wales. They are not a tolerance on the speed limit. 31 in a 30 is speeding. In theory, there is no basis in law as to why you could not be prosecuted. You may have a complaint against Police, but IN THEORY, you could still get done.

According to the ACPO the tolerance for speeding is 10% plus 2mph. I.E you CANNOT get nicked for doing 35mph in a 30mph zone, you'll have to be doing at least 36mph, 47mph, 58mph, 69mph and 80mph. This is FACT and if you have been nicked for anything less then you should get a lawyer to sort it.

Chassis number, how close can you get ?

Where did you get the chassis number reference for the changeover from - was this a main dealer? I thought the Citroen RP number if still in use in 1995 would allow you can calculate EXACTLY whether it was built on a Friday or not - and which one too. If it's as bad as you say then a digital camera is worth its weight in gold if you can take pics...

All the usual xantia things to look for. There have been some reports about cam shaft sprockets, but these were on the 90hp version, I think.
The HDI in general is a bit of a gem. My dad has a 406 110, and it's quiet ( although the 90 is considered a little quieter ), and deceptively fast. He gets mid 50's in normal driving, but that doesn't have...

I would add to the above list the MIG-WELDER; very useful for making holes in your car, and then making these same holes actually bigger whilst simultaneeously attempting to make them smaller again....much quicker and a lot more effective than the boring old drill.

I think the tax groups are based on the output of CO2, but only for vehicles built after a certain date. My daughter's 2 litre HDI is in the lowest tax group, whilst the other daughter's 1.9 XUD is in the highest. I believe my own 2.1 would qualify for the low group, but it was regestered before the qualifying date.

Sorry for my ignorance could someone tell me the engine cc size for the lowest road tax category. I thought it was 1000cc for the lowest and have been scanning the ads for a 1000 cc station car. Someone told me that in fact you can go up to 1300 maybe 1400cc at the lowest rate.

Is it the same as the old Tectyl from Valvoline which is a petroleum based product? If so I think you're stuck with it although the smell does diminish with time. Fishoil products naturally attract the local moggies and a common one these days is lanolin based (sheep oil) which again can get a...
