Engine Oil
Hi Marc, I would like to know what oil I need and how much as I've just bought that sucky pump from Lidl.

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Re: Citroen, DS Automobiles and Peugeot Official Part Number Requests
Either of the following, depending on Country / temp. So have a look at this page, under Country Table A for the UK, then find the DW engines, and finally the 4HW engine code :
PSA Engine Oils 2024
EM: 05W30 B71 2290 - 05W30 B71 2290 (C2)
EM: 10W40 B71 2300 - 05W40 B71 2296 (A3B4)

I'm sorry Marc, you've done an amazing job on that chart/S. My brain unfortunately doesn't understand it

Re: Engine Oil
I've moved this out of the Parts Thread as it's getting more of a separate topic.
Basically your engine can take any of the grades I listed. For an idea of the one to use, see the chart above which shows the protection range of each.
Basically when oil is cold it is thicker and thins as it heats up.
So a 05W30 oil would provide protection when the outside temperature is from about -25°C to +40°C

Re: Engine Oil
Hi, Are those electric oil extractors any good ? I had a hand suction pump one and it was ok on my C5 but failed to work on a Fiat Bravo I had. Was thinking of getting one from Lidl as they're so cheap and would be helpful if I ever put the wrong fuel in. Worried sediment might still be in sump if you suck it through the oil filler spout

Re: Engine Oil
You can get the majority out through the dipstick hole and then I use a piece of flexible tube curved into a hook to 'hoover' the sump floor through the drain plug hole. It does of course only get out what it can reach but in association with the endoscope it is surprising how much you can get to. Doing that though probably only produces another 50-100ml anyway so it is questionable as to its value!!

Re: Engine Oil
I tried the manual pump ones but they break easy. The C5 I used it on had a rounded off sump plug that I never had changed.I did the oil myself anyway

Re: Engine Oil
I have never been convinced that they remove the "sludge film" in the same way a good flow of HOT oil will do (I always change my oil HOT) ...hence I would never use one for any of my cars.
Lawn Mower etc, yes.

Re: Engine Oil
Yes indeed hot is the way to go, and I flush my engine every second oil change. Thin hot flushing oil works wonders, the innards are usually cleaner than the outside!!Stickyfinger wrote: ↑11 Jun 2024, 21:47 I have never been convinced that they remove the "sludge film" in the same way a good flow of HOT oil will do (I always change my oil HOT) ...hence I would never use one for any of my cars.

Re: Engine Oil
I don't think it makes any difference. When it's up on the ramps and the sump plug is removed that's it. The sump plug isn't underneath the sump it's just above the bottom of the sump on the side. So the 'sludge' will always be there even after a full service. Isn't that what an oil filter is for? I think this pump would help a lot of people to service their own vehicle. Obviously if concourse standards says no 'sludge' then it would fail.
