C5 X7 Driveshaft Gaiters

Unread post by Paul-R »

D'ohh, my C5 X7 has just failed the MOT. Part numbers for rear discs and pads please.

Both outer CV gaiters have also failed. What's the OE offering? Or should I go for a universal gaiter that can be pulled over the joint without dismantling?

They are Cheaper, easier to fit & in most cases better quality than the originals. No brainer really.

How easy are they to fit? Especially if you don't have one of the powered f***y stretchers?

Answered my own question. I've found that you can get a plastic cone for a tenner.

Some X7s are fitted with shafts where the CV joint doesn't come off, so a stretch boot is very preferable to pulling the shaft and dismantling it to allow the boot to fitted from the other end!

Have they split or just "popped" off the joint?, mine "Pop" off the hub occasionally, I think it's when turning the steering on full lock when the suspension has no weight on it, for instance on high or on axle stands.

I don't know, it's been too cold to look. The gaiter on the left has popped off before when the original clip broke off and disappeared. I fixed it when I did the suspension ram last year so it may actually be a split this time. They are 11 years old now!
