Hello all,how would I go about refilling gearbox please, had a good look but nothing looks like a filler hole, this is year 2000. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be great, even better if you got a picture.
Cheers Eb.
Happy New Year.
The 110 2.0 HDi uses the ML gearbox, that thread is talking about the BE gearbox. The advice here is correct but I'd just explain that the BE vent plug gives a nice generous 20-odd mm ID hole in which to feed the oil (I use a cheap plastic funnel pushed into a short length of green plastic garden hose pipe = works well) where as the ML reverse light switch is more like 10-12mm ID hole, certainly far too small for my garden hose based setup!
A much smaller funnel was small enough to feed oil in to my C5's ML gearbox reverse light switch hole, but the small bore made it a slow process!
Other thing to say, is remove the air filter housing to see said switch.
Manual, when you say use reverse switch, would that be the one on top of the gearbox under the air filter which has a plug on the top for reversing lights? thanks

Yes that'll be the one. Think I've a picture, will see if I can find it...
EDIT sorry, had a look can't seem to find the picture, thought I'd taken one but no sign of it.
Given the opti0on of popping off the vent cap and running the risk of damaging the reverse light switch unscrewing it I'd go vent cap every time if there isn't a pukka level plug on the box.

I don't think that the ML5T has a removable vent cap. Officially you fill the box through the level plug on the diff housing, but I think that everyone uses the reversing light switch hole as it is the easiest.
Top is reverse switch
Middle is a female bolt with washer
Bottom is of the drain plug and other various bolts
Which is best to use or anyone recognise various bolts.
Much appreciated, Eb

Eb, the middle one on the tapered projection on the back of of the diff. housing is the level plug... Almost inaccessible... The filler plug is on top of the diff housing and totally inaccessible...
Still best to drain all and refill completely with fresh via the reversing light switch. I have many times... No risk of damage if you use a deep 22mm socket on the switch.
Make sure you only refill with the correct 75W/80 oil...
