Hi all,
Time to post again, my Xantia's still going well (25yr old this year).
Have just taken it to MOT at Kwik Fit (about 10th time they mot'd it) and its passed on everything but a steering rack gaitor (offside front).
I know these are relatively easy to replace, but has anyone got any advice on the procedure? Do you get access by removing the wheel?
Have found some, see link:

Will have a look for other prices but if thats all they cost then im happy and will fix myself.
Steve

It may not be as easy as you imagine...

I can confirm the boot is still on using the folded wire "circlip" under a jubilee-clip....so far !
Note:
The hard thing (without a hydraulic stretcher) is getting a boot over the steering rack/ram mounting stud (rubber boot)...standard clips DO NOT keep these boot on the rack neck. Many have tried, all reports I have seen (and in my experience) have them slipping off in short order.
You cannot get the original plastic type over this mounting stud.
A LHD Activa V6 is the perfect storm when it comes to this job, every aspect of it is hard work because access is a nightmare.....
There is a very good argument for removing the steering Rack and renewing all the boots on it at the same time, more so as the job is easier on a RHD car that is not a v6 nor a Activa

Hi All,
Just quick post to say thanks for advice.
I got the gaitor and fitted it, not that easy a job but it passed the MOT again.
Thanks again,
Steve
