Abs/esr//handbrake/esp/ and other faults
My citroen c4 picasso 1.6hdi semi auto 2008, came up with many faults, Inc abs/esr/esp/handbrake and a few other faults. I've had it diagnosed twice, 1st it said it was the speed sensor, so I changed that and made no difference, 2nd diagnostic said it was abs pump, so I changed that, bled all brakes by foot, now I have no brakes, also still no difference to any faults, before I changed the abs pump the auto handbrake button lit up on my dashboard, now it doesn't light up and it beeps and warns me that the handbrake isn't on but it is, i have checked the wiring in the neck of the loom behind the fuse box next to the battery, and there are no broken or split wires, the wires still look like new, also when I turn ignition on it flashes up economy mode, but this has done this since I bought it 2 years ago, is this normal? I'm at my wits end, please please can anyone help, many thanks wayne

Re: Abs/esr//handbrake/esp/ and other faults
ABS / ESP Errors can be caused by a variety of situations, not necessarily having anything to do with the pump and replacing parts without a thorough diagnostic is going to be expensive and may not fix your problem.
Often these issues can be electrical /power / sensor issues.
You subsequent issue post replacing the ABS / ESP pump will be that bleeding the brakes alone won't work. Your vehicle will have ESP for the year and there are 2 processes for bleeding - 1 which involves the bleeding of the ESP Hydraulic block using a capable diagnostic tool (which is a guided process) and then the actual braking circuit requiring 2 people. So I think you may have now introduced another problem that never existed.
The handbrake system is also controlled by the ESP system, so of course any issues affecting the ESP will also have a knock on effect with the handbrake.
When you replaced the ESP pump, did you order the correct part and has the ECU been programmed correctly for your vehicle?
What Diagnostic tool did you use?
What are the exact fault codes being returned?
I suggest you provide the above info and your VIN to help with ongoing fault finding. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

Re: Abs/esr//handbrake/esp/ and other faults
Hi - hoping someone can help out here as I'm struggling to find anything on the internet. Recently bought a lightly-bumped C3 Mk3 1.2 67-plate and completed all the front plastic/lights repair. The ESP light is on and the garage reported codes U1213 (ABS/ESP invalid) C2503 and C263D (Yaw speed sensor). I'm assuming the yaw sensor didn't appreciate the bump and needs replacing, but totally unable to find it! I've taking up the centre console and removed both seats as other posts suggested it may be under the handbrake or passenger seat, but nothing there - only the airbag sensor in front of the handbrake. Any advice on this would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Abs/esr//handbrake/esp/ and other faults
Those aren't valid PSA codes by the looks of them, so can't help you with those.
When the airbags have been triggered, the airbag ECU switches to locked mode. This means the pyrotechnic components triggering information and the impact conditions are saved and the faults cannot be cleared.
This is for safety reasons and a new Airbag ECU should be fitted and configured in cases where the car will be used again.
The yaw sensor is integral to the airbag ECU positioned in between the handbrake lever and the gear surround.

Re: Abs/esr//handbrake/esp/ and other faults
thanks for coming back so quickly. No airbags were deployed as it was a low hit at the front, but if it's integral with the airbag sensors then I guess that's the way I'll go. No wonder I can't find it! Thanks again, much appreciated.

Ok, if you have the correct fault codes ideally using Diagbox, then I can provide you with the exact fault descriptors.

Thanks Marc - would this one be OK for getting and resetting the codes? Citroen Peugeot Diagnostic Interface LEXIA 3 with DIAGBOX 9.129

Re: Abs/esr//handbrake/esp/ and other faults
It should be if it's a FULL CHIP Revision C Lexia Kit. Anything under £100 likely will not be the full hardware version, so be aware of cheaper cut down versions that won't read the later full CAN vehicles.

Ok, so when you do, pop the VIN up along with the codes. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

Re: Abs/esr//handbrake/esp/ and other faults
Hi Marc - Diagbox took a while to get here from Denmark but arrived today. Ran the test and detected several codes, all of which reset with the exception of the yaw sensor.
VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Error code is C006A 54
Permanent
Characterisation of fault - Calibration not carried out
Appreciate any help on this
Chris

Re: Abs/esr//handbrake/esp/ and other faults
Thanks Marc, that's interesting. The car wasn't completely level at the time, and at one point I blundered into a menu that indicated the gyro output was not zero. I suppose that's maybe reassuring that it is at least giving an output. I'll level the car off properly and try again. Will let you know.
