2016 C4 Picasso Abs, esp, parking brake and tyre inflation monitor faults showing

Post by Alan112 »

Hi,
I have a C4 Picasso 2016 vtr. Yesterday the car threw up faults in abs, esp tyre inflation monitor, hill start assist and parking brake. These all appearing at one time would suggest a common cause but what that cause is , I haven't a clue. Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Actually it's all related to the same system.

The ESP ECU controls the ESP functions, the ABS, the Electronic Handbrake and subsequently, the Hill Start Assist Function. Additionally, as you have a later C4 Picasso, you will have the indirect inflation detection system. This doesn't have sensors on the wheels, but uses the Wheel speed sensors to determine changes in the diameter / physical behaviour of the tyres. So you can see that if you have a problem with a component of the ESP system, it will have a knock-on effect on these systems.

Also, if you have made a repair or changes to the wheels / tyres, check the pressures are correct and then reinitialise the under inflation detection system from your multifunction display screen menu.

So I would be looking for anything that has possibly upset a wheel sensor to start with (any wheel / brake maintenance lately?).

Hi,
I had the rear tyres changed a couple of months ago but haven't done anything else with it since then. The car hasn't been driven too much during the lockdown but at least I have a starting place now. Thank you

It just might be that the vehicle has been standing for a while with the lockdown. When you're able, check tyre pressures again, top up and reinitialise and take it for a spin to see if the warning goes away when you can.

Hi,

Did you have any luck finding out the issue for this? Put my car in for 3 new tyres yesterday and wheel alignment, collected it with all of the exact same faults. No faults when I dropped it into the garage #-o they're saying the faults appeared the moment they turned the ignition on :?

Thanks in advance.

Hi all
We have 2014 C4GP. Same errros popped today. ABS+ESP+tyre pressure +handbrake.
After switching the engine for the first time they cleared but cam back after 10 miles or so. Since then turning of the engine does not clear them. Any ideas? Will try to check abs sensor.

These are all related to the ESP / ABS ECU system - realistically a diagnostic is needed first of all to determine the cause, then put the fault codes up.

Correct, the rear right wheel speed sensor. While this fault is operational, it will cause deactivation of a lot of the speed-related features, like:
  • Deactivation of the ABS function
  • Deactivation of the traction control function with action on the brakes (BASR)
  • Deactivation of the traction control function with action on the engine torque (EASR)
  • Deactivation of the ESP function
  • Electric parking brake: Dynamic application only
  • Deactivation of the indirect deflation detection function (DSGi)
  • Deactivation of the ESP function in deceleration phase (MSR)
  • Deactivation of the hill start assistance function
  • Deactivation of the emergency braking assistance function (AFU)
  • Deactivation of the "Stop and Start" function
  • Deactivation of semi-automatic parking assistance

Yes, I have ESP/ASR, hill assist, tyre pressure, ABS, parking brake. All alarms start with driving assist system limited message.
I will order part today. Hope that replacement will solve the issue and there will be no need to dig deeper into possible damaged wires.
Thank you for help.

No problem - but before you do that, also check the existing connections to the sensor - check the plug, the pins and clean them up with electrical contact cleaner. These can become contaminated or a knock can upset a pin connection causing the issue.

I wonder how this issue can make GPS stop working? When driving maps refresh cars position every few minutes. I was reading about ABS sensor problems and one guy said he noticed GPS problem on his Cactus. Checked on my car - same.

Nothing to do with GPS Tomas - that is entirely a coincidence.

Should I have 12V at the connection to the socket?
Will try to check that sensor this evening.
