DS5 Headlights

Unread post by Robk »

I recently purchased a 2016 DS5 and unfortunately it has had a bad repair job. I am getting the Directional light error. The headlights have been swapped out with the Pre-facelift versions and I want to know if there is anyway that the BSI can be programmed to accept the old type lights? Part number for the lights that are installed are 9802086780, and I assume that I need to expensive LED lights.

Onthis vehicle the engine fuse box is configurable, and there are options for lighting that have to be set here, and possibly in the BSI too.

This original headlamp unit was the version with Xenons and LEDs combined, so may have specific software / configuration to operate but I can tell you that you will have the incorrect headlamp auto adjuster unit as these are different parts depending on the pre and post facelifted models amongst other possible differences. So configuration of the headlamp ECU will be impossible if the wrong lighting units are fitted I suspect.

Thanks for the reply. The DRL LED's and the Xenons work fine. The main beams are a problem as they don't turn on. I assume I would have to run a new wire to them from the engine fuse box. I would need to know what fuse socket to use and if the Main beam selector would send a signal to the new fuse to turn them on.
If I could turn off the auto adjusters on the headlights that would be an easy option as well.

No that won't work. The system is ECU controlled and you can't just go running wires to fuseboxes and ECUs expecting it to work.

You need the correct headlights, ECU, software and programming for this to work.

Have a look at the label, see if you can see who makes them FOR Citroen/DS.

I've just been buying headlights for the Berlingo, in that case they are made by Valeo, see the bunch of logos on the label...
IMG_20230801_131934.jpg
From a bit of shopping around, I've now ordered one made by Valeo for £130 inc delivery instead of the £369 that Citroen would charge.

This is a 65% saving for a brand new identical original light, not a lookalike or pattern part. The only difference is that it won't have a Peugeot/Citroen logo on the box or label.

You may be able to do a similar process for yours.

There are other cheapo Taiwanese/Chinese/Whatever copy ones for around £100, but it's not worth the risk for the tiny additional saving, they could be LHD or just crap.

I'd avoid used, the Berlingo ones are crazing at 9 years old and will probably become cloudy in another few. I needed to replace one due to accident damage but decided to just replace both while I'm at it, as they're so cheap.

:rofl2: ... and the rest, the originals for this model are over £1731.00 each new!

I've had a look at the Valeo catalogue and they're not listed at all in there unfortunately.

Crikey, I'll try not to crash our DS5 head-on into anything then.

This may be an issue when they inevitably start turning opaque in the future. No signs so far, hopefully they're more UV-resistant than the Berlingo ones, which are developing surface crazing at 8-9 years old. Given the price of the Valeo ones I'm replacing them, but I definitely would look into polishing and/or coatings if I was looking at £3400+.

I suppose they have to justify the price of the car by charging silly money for the unique parts. The DS5 is basically a tarted-up Berlingo/C4/Peugeot 308 estate, so the oily bits are all bog standard cheapo bits but the posh bits certainly make up the difference.

Xenons have always been very expensive, my C5 X7 Xenons are £1351 each new, so add in the LED tech on the combined units into the mix and it soon adds up.

The later LED signature lamps are a bit more reasonable now with the new C5 X (2022) bare headlamp being just under £800, with the ECU another £164, so cheaper as I would expect with the later tech - but still expensive for what they are.

Do you think you can see if you can take a photo of the label on the headlights. Maybe the manufacturer is listed there. There are hardly any photos online of these lights and I cant find one of the label.

Someone will know who the manufacturer is from that logo (it's not Valeo), might be worth hunting them down and emailing them. You never know, they might be £20 without the Citroen markup!

CCC is China's safety accreditation, just googled it. They sold lots of DS5s in China, so it might be worth checking Chinese websites, e.g. AliExpress. I bought a used door handle on there.
