C3 Parts Query

Unread post by ibog »

hi..
I'm having trouble identifying an abs module for my Citroen c3 (2007 1.1i)

I have heard if I match exactly same year/spec I may not have to reprogram the unit at all.

however I don't know which numbers I have to match..

I know my part numbers are
4542FX (pump)
and 4542N1 (module)

and these run for about 450 RPO numbers..
(does this mean only 450 cars have a module I can just fit?)

but how exactly do I identify the same module?
there are many numbers on the plastic module yet none seem to relate to the 4542N1 part number.

most listed are listed under the pump number and the scrapyards don't seem to know RPO numbers.

is anyone able help me work out what I'm actually looking for?

thanks

I've moved your post here, as the thread you posted in is only for members who have donated to the Forum requiring official part numbers.

If you need an original, genuine part number, and can't already find the info you need on the Forum, we do ask for a membership upgrade for official parts data as we are in turn charged for this. It will cover you for future part number requests for up to 2 years, so excellent value.

If interested, links are below, then pop your VIN up.
A response to your question by a Forum Admin requiring parts or additional information requires you to have made a current contribution (£10 min.) to the Forum.

There are 2 parts, the Hydraulic block and the ABS ECU.

You must ensure the ABS parts are the same. You may not have the PSA internal part number on your ECU or block, but you should have a label with a number beginning 96******* which you can use to find a used module.

The RPO number is simply the build date code and every PSA vehicle is given one so that we know the date it was built at the factory, which along with the VIN will determine which parts were fitted. Ignore RPOs as that is not going to help you. Stick with part numbers, either the PSA one which you say you have or the longer 96* number.

If you want me to check the correct part numbers against what you have provided, then see links above.

thanks for the help..

I already have the part numbers though, they're in the manual.. 4542FX is the pump and 4542N1 is the abs ecu

I simply need to know how to identify the abs ecu part from what's actually written on it as it doesn't seem to have the part number on it anywhere.

people tell me to match the numbers but I don't know which numbers have to match.

the scrapyards seem to stock their 3in1 module/hcu/pump by their pump part number.
hence I'm asking how I tell the abs ecu part is the correct one.

thanks 👍

There are only 2 components, (the ECU and the hydraulic block), not 3.
In my post I mentioned the label and part number usually beginning with '96' on each component.

Having had a quick look for the C3 II of that year, none of those part numbers that you provided are shown on Citroen's official parts database, so I don't know what manual you are referring to, but the part numbers change from different build dates and engine variants and those 2 specific part numbers you provided are not listed anywhere.

Anyway, you have all the details in my previous post if you need the correct parts.

You haven't supplied your VIN, so I am going off a C3 II based on the year from your first post and what you have shown above is from the old off-line data that is well out of date (over 11 years) and some of those parts are not even available now! We only use live data from Citroen here and use your VIN to ensure correct parts.

If you are confident you have what you want then there's nothing further we can do to assist.

Even if you have an up to date Citroen dealer part number they are generally not very helpful when looking for second had parts as the dealer part number is generally not printed or stamped on the part anywhere. The 96 part number on the actual part is the manufacturers part number & the PSA database cant match them up.

Of, course and I think I mentioned the '96' number in an earlier post, but at least having the correct PSA part number to start with is essential for at least getting a matching OEM part number that can be cross referenced from many after market suppliers.

Does my part's number change while it's sat there on the car?

I think you're missing the point entirely...

Part numbers change throughout a vehicle's manufacture cycle and again after it is no longer made when parts become unavailable. In such cases, a part may be superseded with an alternative part from the manufacturer - which you very likely (if available for your car) won't have because you are using on old off-line version of the database.

So generally speaking, if an alternative compatible part is suggested by Citroen, then you at least have an alternative number to search on.

There's nothing you can do regarding repairing it to be honest and opening it up won't provide any detail on the part number. The hardware, software versions and the part number (Manufacturer part not PSA Part number) would of been on the label of the unit. If that's missing then you have no info on the part fitted.

it's ok, I've got all the numbers, nevermind about identifying the ECU I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope..

(that's a totally different unit tho, it's the ATE MK70)

looks like somebody's already opened this one up once so getting in shouldn't be a problem.. just waiting for some longer torx drivers..
