Quick Stupid question on diagbox

Unread post by darbuck »

Hi Lads,

I have tried to find the answer to this so i am not posting previously discussed topics but couldn't find any reference to it.

Does it matter if the engine is on or off when connecting diagbox. The reason I ask I Think it needs a battery because it constantly shows economy mode when i get in. It wont give enough power to the diagbox when the engine is off. :?
I have a lot of work to do on the car before I can actually use it as a daily driver I have all the parts bought but the weather is muck at the moment so I would like to run diagnostics before I start taking it apart, I don't want to have any nasty surprises when i go to run her. The less time lying on the drive way in this weather the better.

You can run a scan with the engine on, it probably won't let you clear codes. You'll have limited dialogue in eco mode.

Ok thanks Richard, it wouldn't connect the last time I tried. I will try tomorrow when I get home.

Hi Lads,
I tried to run a diagnostic tonight but the car refuses to talk to diagbox. I think something is wrong but i cant figure out what it is. diagbox detected the vin once, but when i tried going in as c5 R (facelift mark 1 ) global scan no modules responded. I then manually tried as a C5 X7 and manually input vin it then opened diagbox ran a scan but no comms again. I cant understand it. It did however start throwing codes after i had unplugged it depollution fault but i think its the car giving out not an actual fault with the DPF

Is your cable a "full chip" one, or not? My cable isn't - it shows "no communication" in Diagbox, but I can connect to the car and pull codes etc with Lexia

The Citroen C5X7 was switched to DIAGBOX diagnostics from a certain software version or firmware.
If the DIAGBOX 7.xx is installed, the DIAGBOX must also be used - if the LEXIA option is selected, only 2-3 control units are recognised.
If only the good old LEXIA 345 with update 348 is installed (without DIAGBOX), then the LEXIA software works for Citroen vehicles up to 2009/2010.
In this case, however, there must be another error.
The software is rarely defective.
Even more rarely, the diagnostic connection on the car.
Mostly the problem is with the China VCI - especially the C5 is affected. Buy a proper VCI and return the improper VCI.

You will need a full chip VCI for the X7.

Thanks Wolfgang. ^^^ This is the case for me. I don't have Diagbox installed.

Hi Mark,

I don't know if it's full chip set or is there anyway of checking an old unit?

It's a 08 so lexia should be working if that's the case.🤔

Lexia was used for vehicles circa 2007 and earlier - and Diagbox for later vehicles, but Diagbox will launch the correct application according to the vehicle detected. However this really depends on the vehicle marque, model and build date - it's not precise, but an early X7 like 2008 can work with Lexia - as long as the Lexia is way up to date as it is about this time that they switched over.

If it's not actually detecting the vehicle properly without intervention then the likelihood is that you have an older interface that's not fully compliant.

This is what my one looks like inside. You might be able to see in the last pic that it's missing some chips - there are some contacts on the board with nothing attached.
Ross_K wrote: 14 Aug 2022, 16:42 After trying unsuccessfully to talk to my X7 for several days with the Actia cable I bought 10 years ago, it seems to be a no-go as I don't have the "full chip" version.
