C5 X7 Emissions

Unread post by osx »

Failed MOT because of emissions (0.5 cutoff, 1.2 measured with engine temp at 85C). Had new diesel filter fitted last month and using additive in every tank so expected everything to be fine as engine running fine and 90% of the time the C5 is on the motorway. Any point cleaning the EGR?

What sort of additive are you putting in? Citroen expressly tell you not to put any additives in the tank, so I'm curious as to what it is you are putting in, as this may have a detrimental effect if mixed with the DPF additive that is also injected from the additive tank when adding fuel.

Redex diesel system cleaner. Been using it for years and have topped up EOLYS twice during this period.

What is the part number for the EGR as I would rather replace it

Time flies indeed. Have renewed my membership.

Managed to remove 6 screws from the EGR but there must be more underneath as it doesn't budge. Can I still remove it without having to go under the car?

I believe it is an Allen bolt - is this actually needed as there are more than enough screws to secure the EGR and some models with the same engine and EGR don't have it.

The Allen screw is underneath the EGR. you need a 5mm allen key, it screws upwards into EGR and needs a couple of turns to enable it to slide out of its slot. It is accessed from the top.
When looking into engine bay from front of car, the allen screw is bellow the screw hole nearest the elec plug

Thanks Steve. If I manage to remove it I don't think I will be putting it back!

That crossed my mind but I have OCD about stuff and it would be on my mind if I left it out, My new glow plugs are due here tomorrow so planning on refitting it all.
When I figured where it was and the size it wasn't too bad to do

Can you confirm the VIN please, as you have 2 X7s in your profile, then I can get the part for you. Thanks for membership renewal
