Citroen c5 multiple warning lights

Unread post by stevenplace4 »

Hi. I am having a multiple warning lights coming up on my dashboard. They seem to appear at low speed or when braking luckily because the engine shuts down aswell. I can start the engine straight after it cuts out and it drives fine and all the warning lights are gone. I can then drive for 1 hour or 1 day and so on and then they return. They are never the same sequence or same faults, I have had it in 4 different garages now with different results. The first garage which is who I use all the time told me it was the engine fuse box but he could not carry out the work and recommended a auto electrician. I then took it to auto electrician, he told me the battery needed renewing which he changed and it seemed fine for a couple of days then the problem returned. I took it back to him and he was to busy to fit the car in.
I then took it to another recommended auto electrician and suspected a fault on the wiring loom. He had it for 3 weeks. He told me he found the fault on the loom and repaired it. 10 minutes after leaving the garage it lit up like a Christmas tree and cut out. Please help

It is true that the engine fusebox may be the culprit - however as you are plainly seeing, taking it all over the place to different garages is probably costing you and not helping very much.

It needs proper diagnosis using bespoke diagnostic tools, so for this sort of potentially dangerous issue I would get it to Citroen and start saving time and money.

This sort of issue that causes catastrophic failure is likely to be a loss of power at the main fuse box / supplies unit or related wiring.

OK thanks for the advice. I'm running out of options so looks like I will have to bite the bullet and take to main dealers

Yes, there' should be one right near you (SB Wakefield) - it's where I bought my C5 X7 a good few years ago - great place and friendly staff.

take a look on rotation sensors! They often cause similar issues. Mine and my friens C5X7 had this simptoms. In bolth cases sensor on crankshaft (pos sensor) was falty. Cheap and easy to replace. Garage also wanted to change fusebox....

Try connecting a voltmeter to the cigar lighter socket and place it where you can see it when driving. It should read around 14.4 volts but if it varies much from that when the fault occurs it might help with the diagnosis. If it drops very much when the fault occurs it will be a general supply fault, if not it will be an individual unit supply that's failing.

If it is, you could try connecting it to different supply feeds maybe starting at the fusebox.

These are cheap-ish and easy to get hold of.
Not this particular one of course.
I had one in the C5 when my alternator started to fail. Broke it though.
Another posher one has appeared in the Civic - my son's to charge his phone more than anything, despite there being a dedicated USB port.

Me neither but the internet is a useful resource - bought mine from eBay and Amazon, as with so many things.

There was one stuck in the cigar lighter when we bought the MGB. I transferred it into the 308 to keep an eye on the voltage produced on the overrun.
