C4 Pic 2014 Exclusive (B87) - Wing Mirror Indicator Not Working

Post by zane2g2 »

Evening all,

Just a quick one (Hopefully :rofl2: )

My passenger side indicator light stopped working some time ago.
So... knowing it was a sealed light I purchased a new one and went about replacing it.
So I took the wing mirror apart in the normal way that is to replace the unit.
Put it back together & went to test it.... bosh.... still not working.
I've tested the old & new light unit, and they both work (Bang head against wall).

The thing is does anyone know why just the mirror light isn't working?
ALL of the indicators lights around the car work fine.

Cheers all,
Zane

I wonder if you have a multi switch on that door and if there are any faults with it. The wiring harnesses to the mirror go through the multi connectors in that area.

DO you know where there are any connectors on for the door or a wiring schematic for the wing mirror/ door?

you need some of the moderators for diagrams/schematics but, if you lift the electric window switch module out you see the harnesses. You probably won't be able to get much access but is worth a look before you pull door trim off to get access

The first place to check is the connection between the door and the A Pillar section where the wires are fed through. There will be a flexible protector that you will need to remove to check the condition of the wires as this is a common stress place for them to break or start to break causing intermittent failure of equipment like the mirrors, locking etc.

Hi Marc,

Would you happen to have an exploded view of the front passenger door at all please.
I'd like to see what I need to disassemble to check this break in the wiring.
I don't want to go pulling on the flexible rubber boot then cause further damage.

Many Thanks
Zane

Ok, I've highlighted in Red Arrows where the clips are, to give you a better idea where they are when you pry them off:

You'll need a trim removal tool or something like this:
Zane Tool A.PNG
Zane Tool B.PNG
CAUTION : Detach the sleeve with care.
Unclip the sleeve (8) (at "a") Using tool [1327].
Detach (In the direction of the arrow ) :
The sleeve (8)
Zane Tool C.PNG
This is where the connectors are where I have used red arrows.
Zane Tool D.PNG
As for the door side this is what is on the other side of the connector - an electrical connector - but again the red arrow shows where the trim clip is that you need to push in as you release it.

Thats brilliant marc,

Thanks for doing that.
I had the ipad in the car ready to take stuff apart using the instructions.
Thought I'd give the mirror unit the once over first.
Removed the the top part of the cover & removed the light unit & tested the light.
All good, so I lnow the light was ok. I then saw that the wiring goes into the hinge section of the mirror unit so thought I'd check that out.
Removed the 2 torx screws that hold the mirror unit on to the door, popped the mirror unit it off.
and bosh..... 2 broken wires.
resoldered and put some shrink tub over the joins.
Tested everything ..... and bosh... it works :-)
Put back together... sorted.

Damn I got lucky :-D :-D

Huge thanks to Marc and Zane2g2 for the very helpful guidance on the mirror indicator not working on my 2015 C4GP. First - I tested the light before getting a new one, and yes, it was working. Before reading above I removed the door panel. No access to the right area though. What wiring I could see was in good condition.

Then I read above and tackled the mirror itself. Had already removed the mirror once by undoing the bolt inside the door, but couldn't see any broken wires. Then Zane2g2 mentioned Tork screws to remove the mirror. What? Where? Then I found them under the swivel part of the mirror. Took them, out, and whaddyaknow, two broken wires as described above. I was inclined to blame the harness in the door jamb which was going to be difficult to check, but now don't have to. Repaired the wires and all working again. I can't thank you enough for the great advice on tackling this job. I'd hate to think what Citroen might have charged. Most of the time I spent on this (couple days) was researching and pulling off the door panel and tearing hair out. Once I found this post, the actual repair only took a about an hour and I wouldn't have had to touch the door panel. I also found a good Youtube video on pulling the mirror apart. It all helped.

I've included a photo of the broken wires, plus a photo of a tricky door trim clip about an inch or so in from the side edge of the door. It was not a standard pull out clip refusing to let go. Looked inside in what small gap I could make to find a clip held in place by a wire circlip similar to that used in the good old days to hold a manual window winder handle on. I got a length of wire, formed a hook, pulled down on the wire clip, and everything just came apart. Luckily I had resisted the urge to just pull harder on that clip. All other clips popped out nicely using a door trim removal tool, and no clips broke.

Alll in all a very satisfying job. Thanks.

this thread is very helpful for me . its helps a lot . specially robbies picture persuades me strip down wing mirror to check similar faults. indicator repeater , blind spot alert were not working.

after seen robbie’s posted pic i stripped wing mirror and found 3 wires were broken. each wire was connected to 3 different thing. one with repeater ,one with blind spot sensor and one with mirror motor.
FullSizeRender.jpeg

after rejoins the cuts wing mirror function as it have to.

Hi, all! Does anyone have the OEN of the mirror wiring harness? The wires on mine are severely damaged. Was thinking to buy a new harness if not too expensive

Exact same problem on my 2015 exclusive. Found three wires broken and did the same of soldering etc. That is passenger and driver side I have done now.
Just wonder if making a harness with silicone covered cables would be better but for now, it works!
