DS4 THP200 P000A

Post by metalhead_79 »

Have a 2011 DS4 that has started throwing P000A code.

Any tips where to start looking?

It's very likely to be your Camshaft Position Sensor showing a position mismatch.

So a new sensor for the inlet should do the trick?

Well that is the likely suspect with this fault code. - There's a discrepancy with the positioning and what the sensor is reporting - so a good place to start.

Just don't scrimp on a really cheap part, and I would personally advise against buying anything like this from ECP - they are notoriously known for supplying duff parts.

Or maybe a new timing chain...

Hopefully not chain, from what I understand not as usual on the thp 200 engine as others.

The fault is a bit sporadic. Sometimes comes on with repair engine message and you can feel the car going into limp mode with power loss. Next time you start the car the engine fault is still active, but without power loss. The engine light has even gone out on it's own occasionally.

Thought I would take a look at the vanos solenoids as well and give them a clean. The front one (exhaust) is easily accessible, but what is the best way to access the rear one (intake)?

I have only done the rear VANOS solenoid on a 156 in a 308, but access is probably similarly bad. I think that I may have undone the intake manifold and pushed it to one side (without disconnecting the wires and hoses).

You cant really see the Torx screw that holds the solenoid, but it is tight and easy to damage. I managed to squeeze an impact driver into the space between the engine and firewall to undo it.

The fault code seems to be triggered only when the car is cold. Likewise the engine light only goes out spontaneously when the car is up to temp.
Does this point to anything?
