Unread post by h5-n1 »

Hi i am new here. so hello to everyone. I own C5 X7 2008 and i decide to upgrade stereo from rd4 to rneg2. i bought second hand unit from crushed yumpi. And i installed it in my car. ( i bought facia separatly). Everything works just fine. only problem with instal was a brown power cable for screen. But i manufacture it my self using some old pc cables. Now i have music, usb, navigation, even
fuell consumption info. works. Only one problem when i am conected to bluetoth my mic dont work, it was working perfectly wit my rd4 radio. Do i need some facra conector modification maybe. Thanks in advance. best regards.

The problem was because with your old RD4 unit, the microphone connected to a separate hands-free box and not to the RD4. Now you are not using this, the microphone needs to be connected directly to the new head unit.

The Mic is wired in such a way that it disappears into the loom, so you will not be able to find the exit point without getting inside the dash to locate the Nomad hands free unit and identify it from there.

Others have bought a new mix and wired it directly to the mic wiring block that is in one of the blocks in the quadlock

Now you get me an idea. i will cut mic wire close to mic. so i don't need to unloop the wires. and i will solder a new wire direct to fakra connector.
it is no problem to buy s new one but this works perfectly.

Yes, that's another way, before it transforms into the ribbon.

Ok i solved the microphone problem like i said, by cutting wires neer microphone on the connector to ribbon cable, it is working like charm. But now i have another problem, my gps is not working it is constantly "location bad" "visible satellites 0". Is there something i have to change in lexia because i only put the new VIN with lexia, everything else was working normally, so i didn't touch anything.

When you upgraded, did you ensure you have a proper GPS aerial installed? The RD4 aerial unit is not for GPS reception, it needs a proper aerial for that to work.

Ofcourse. i pulled aerial from yumpi and disassembled it took only the gps module and hot glued it to the glass behind interior light and mic trim. So aerial should not be the problem. What else to look for?

I know this is an old thread but is it possible to use an rneg in a car that previously had an rd4 with a monochrome display. I'm not really interested in the sat nav function at present.

If you don't want the sat nav, go for an RD45. The RNEG only has bluetooth for calls, not music. Unless you mean the RNEG2 / RT6, that does calls and music, but without the sat nav it's pointless as well.

The RD45 does calls and music and is a much easier to swap. I've done this swap in one of my C5s so can vouch for it. You'll need a HU, (maybe) a screen, (probably) a mic, and cables for the USB and TRS and also a way to code the VIN to the new HU. AliExpress is the best way to get this stuff, most of them have multiple listings, so can probably dig around a bit to find the best combo of price and delivery time.

Go for this version of the HU (with the square buttons). The ones that look like a normal RD4 only have one fakra connector on the back for the antennae, this one has 3 but one of them doesn't need to be populated. Some sellers will offer to flash the VIN to the HU, I don't know about this one.

You may need a screen, firmware needs to be higher than V72 if I recall. Firmware version is on the sticker on the back of the screen. I bought a screen from this seller so can vouch there as well.

If you don't have a mic (check the roof console by the ambient LEDs) you'll have to get one like this

The USB and TRS cables come in various mechanical configs so it's up to you which version you want to get, but the neatest is probably one of the 2-in-1 ones like this

Oh and I just remembered you'll also probably need a pair of removal keys to get the HU out. Or you can do it like I did with 4 thin screwdrivers that fit in the holes.

There's various tutorials on youtube that can show you what you'd be in for with the installs.
