My car is a Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6HDi Exclusive, year 2005.
The heater blower motor is not working. The fuse is ok. My research suggests that the control transistors on the motor may have failed, so I want to remove the motor. The Haynes manual states that the motor is behind the facia lower centre panel on the left hand side. I removed that panel but I have no idea how to identify and remove the motor. The layout appears to be different from the Haynes one, because mine has a side air vent, that blows into the footwell, that is not shown in Haynes. I have identified an electric heater matrix but that area is crammed full of stuff.
Please can you advise me how to remove the motor? I could post a photo if required.

If I remember right its pretty easy to get at, remove the glovebox first (around 8 t-20 screws) then there is 3 screws holding the motor in once you take the screws out you need to rotate it slightly to release it from the housing.

Thanks for your reply. I've attached a photo of the left hand side of the centre console. Am I correct in assuming the blower is not there?

No it up higher than that, you need to remove the glovebox to get to it.

Thanks, I've taken the glovebox out and can see the motor. It's set well back and hard to see what's going on there, so I've taken a photo. I can't see any screws but the blower housing won't rotate. Any suggestions how to proceed please?

You can see one of the little locking tabs, it looks like it rotates clockwise to release to me. There may be at least one screw though to stop it rotating. I it wont be very loose either, they normally need a fair bit of twisting to remove.

I have a 2008 Citroën XSARA PICASSO 1.6 HDi (diesel). I can't find the heater blower motor on the passenger side or behind the center console after removing the glove box.

Any idea where the blower motor might be?

I have read that you will have to get a thin screwdriver under this little plastic tab or the motor will not move. Pull it up slightly, then rotate it clockwise around 3cm, then the motor will come out.

Not sure what would be the best blower motor for a 2008 Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6 HDiF (80 kW). Number of connector pins is five, so probably I shouldn't buy a blower motor that has a 7 pin connector.
Maybe NRF 34014.

So I need to remove the steering axl to able to remove the blower motor.
AI:
"When you remove the upper bolt of the steering linkage (the one connecting the steering column to the steering shaft under the dashboard), you can usually:
The lower end (connected to the steering gear) remains attached, but the column can flex slightly.
This is a common method for gaining space to replace the blower motor in a Xsara Picasso — no need to dismantle the entire steering system.
Keep in mind:

- Push the steering column (part of it) slightly downward, and
- Move it sideways to create extra space for removing the blower motor.
The lower end (connected to the steering gear) remains attached, but the column can flex slightly.
This is a common method for gaining space to replace the blower motor in a Xsara Picasso — no need to dismantle the entire steering system.
Keep in mind:
- Mark the original position of the column before removal so you can reinstall it correctly.
- Do not turn the steering wheel or the steering gear during removal — this could interfere with the steering angle sensor.
- Avoid using excessive force — the column only needs to move slightly, but that’s enough to remove the blower motor."

Re: How to replace heater blower motor on Picasso 1.6 HDi Exc?
An advice I got from reddit:
The steering axle bolt is the only bolt you need to loosen. Don't remove the bolt, just loosen it up a bit and you can remove the axle. Just put the steering wheel in a lock and move the axle downwards when your car is on the floor so the tires don't move.
The redditor bought NRF 34014 himself which is the blower motor I have been thinking to buy.
