Hi,
I am struggling to be sure about the parts numbers for replacement strut mounts... One of mine has 'speared'...
Can anyone help give me some confidence about ordering the replacements? For that matter it seems impossible to find a catalogue of part numbers for the Xantia.
My car is a 1.9 TD 1996, VIN VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff], ORGA/RP: 2980, non hydroactive. The ORGA number might indicate 5 January 1995 of the assembly line?
It has the smaller hydraulic pipe.
A couple of dealers cannot locate my vehicle via its VIN from their databases... But then my car is french and in France...
I believe the part numbers to be (though not sure...):
LH: 527171, 5271E1, 8917030
RH: 527171, 5271E4, 8917031
There are a few replacement manufacturers but their numbering makes it difficult to be sure.
I would be grateful for any help and suggestions!
Thank you in advance...

Re: Xantia parts number suspension strut mounts
For your car the correct parts for the sphere brackets are as per the diagram:
Strut Support Bracket 5271 E1 Left £234.86 Inc. VAT
Strut Support Bracket 5271 E4 Right £234.86 Inc. VAT
The above are still available from Citroen, although the struts themselves are not.

No worries - some of the parts are no longer available (indicated as NFP), but you may be able to source alternatives - using the part numbers shown. Best of luck.

Re: Xantia parts number suspension strut mounts
I feel a bit stupid... How does the parts numbering work?
For example how do I use the numbers on my ID plate and what do they mean?
Eg:
VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
1830
2980
1 - 1000
2 - 850
X18A
Thank you again...

Re: Xantia parts number suspension strut mounts
You should always use the VIN as this will contain the exact engine and equipment options fitted to your car as it left the factory and is used to ensure the correct parts.
From your VIN we can obtain the RPO or build number. Your build number or RPO is 06972 (so your car was produced 11 December 1995).
As for the other numbers (I have used your values here except the last sequence)
Update: I have edited this post to insert an underscore '_' between the 'V_F_7' to ensure that the VIN displays as this is an example of the constituent parts and to avoid the Forum software from masking it.
Here is a sample of a VIN breakdown for a C5 to give you an idea of the component parts of a VIN: (again ignore the underscore!)
The VIN just identifies the engine type in the main, the vehicle class etc, Here's an example:
VIN Code as we refer to is: V_F_7RDRHR89L000000
VIN Part = V_F_7RDRHR8
In this example:
Manufacturer Part
V - 'Car'
F - Country France in this case
7 - Manufacturer - 'Citroen' in this example
Vehicle Family
R - Citroen C5
Shape
D - 5 Door Saloon or W- 5 Door Estate / Tourer
Engine
RHR - Engine Code, in this case DW10BTED4 100 kW
Gearbox
8 - 6 Speed Manual Gearbox in this example
VIS - this is the next part of 8 characters & consists of 4 alphanumeric and 4 numeric 9L000000
9 - 2009 Year
L - Factory Code:- Rennes in this case
Code
The next 6 digits will relate to the car identifier itself and any options.

Re: Xantia parts number suspension strut mounts
In cold countries, the strut tops usually fail due to the steel bracket rusting through, in hot countries, the fail due to the rubber tearing. Which sort of failure did you have?

Hi,
I suppose warm/hot - south of France it is the rubber that has failed. No rust here!

Re: Xantia parts number suspension strut mounts
If it's the rubber that's failed and the metalwork is good you can get them reconditioned by that place in Lithuania.
So these strut tops are still available? I didn't realise this, I am surprised! I thought they were nfp and subject to hot topic of what to do when they're failed. This is potentially great news for me worrying about the strut tops failing every day!

Re: Xantia parts number suspension strut mounts
If it's part (2) - the sphere bracket, they show as available and are priced at £234.86 inc. VAT each in the UK from Citroen, Graeme.

Re: Xantia parts number suspension strut mounts
Good news there. Fair of chunk of cash for the pair but it's still an option.
Old question probably but is it only the non hydractive that's available or is there a second pair of part numbers for that?

Re: Xantia parts number suspension strut mounts
The simple answer is that there are a stack of these with different part numbers, depending on build date and engine / Hydractive / ARCS / and a lot of them are no longer available from Citroen - so would need a VIN to confirm the exact part number for availability Graeme.
