Xantia Rear Strut new boots gaiters soufflets

Refitting Gaiter on Xantia Rear Suspension

New boots have arrived
Image

Malcolm (citronut) supplied me with possible part numbers for the boots with prices. I ordered both from the main dealer, and after an unpromising start where the ordering took about 45 minutes of waiting around, the parts came within a week.

I am fitting a rear strut from a sinker L-reg 1.9td, to an M-reg Non-sinker 1.9td. Both are/were Mk 1's with the cosmetic difference of chevrons on the bonnet of the older sinker.

The larger boot is appropriate for the "sinker strut", the smaller one for the "non-sinker" strut.

Question is are sinker struts, and non-sinker struts of this vintage the same, or similar enough to use.

They do look pretty much the same but maybe it is an optical illusion that the sinker strut, when fitted with the larger boot does look fatter than the non-sinker strut.

I will probably be able to salvage, repair the wire clips but I had to cut the threaded bolt to get them off. If anyone has ever ordered a pack of 10 of these clips and has them lying around it would probably be a better job to use a new clip.

regards

Neil

I have now lost the one and only double wire clip for the rear suspension strut boot.
(placed temporarily on rear bumper when loading up the hound, shut the hatch, forgot about the clip and drove off.)

I was heading off to scrapyard central at West Sleekburn, and just as an aside none of the 6 or 7 yards down there had a Xantia in.

The double wire clip is about 60mm diameter, and there are some suppliers of double wire 'jubilee clips' on the internet, but I may be as well just ordering a pack of 10 of the right part. Maybe a pair of cable ties would do the job just as well.

Malcolm, if you could come up with your usual magic on part no's and prices for the boot clips it would be greatly appreciated

kind regards
Neil

try aiming this No. at the dealer its the same clip but for a BX which is the same diamiter as your of 56mm,

you will also find im sure the same clip is used on CX's AND G's, and probably D's to boot

Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT Total incl. VAT Selection
26140919 BOOT CLAMP 5.56 GBP 6.67 GBP 6.67 GBP

i wouldn't be surprised if that was the price for one,

the part No. superloopy posted also fits

Number of documents found by vehicle family:
2 document(s) found for XANTIA II
11 document(s) found for C5 II
3 document(s) found for C5
1 document(s) found for XANTIA
1 document(s) found for XM II

i would be giving Malcolm Lockwood ( M C Lockwood ) a call on 01274 640590

as he stock/supplies early and late citroen spares at very competitive price's and excellent postage

Thanks Malcolm

Lots of useful info there. The clip looks like being more expensive than the boot itself.
I am right in thinking at the radius arm cup end of the boot there is no other clip, and the boot just pulls over the cup?

Found this site with similar looking clips at 56p +VAT/piece.

hcl fasteners double wire screw

50.5-56.0mm Double Wire Screw 056- Zinc Plated
Ref: DWS-056
Price: £0.56 (Excluding VAT at 20%) 373 in stock. Min Order Qty: 5

53.5-60.0mm Double Wire Screw 060- Zinc Plated
Ref: DWS-060
Price: £0.56 (Excluding VAT at 20%) 395 in stock. Min Order Qty: 5

worth a try?

If you had to plump for one would you go for the

50.5-56mm clip or the 53.5-60mm clip.

You mentioned that the diameter of the clip was 56mm-if this measurment is the "at rest" state then the 50.5 to 56mm would be the one to go for. If its the "tightened up" state then maybe the 53.5-60mm is best.

Is it a case of suck it and see?

edit:-after a bit of measurement of the strut circumference and bit of "O-level" maths where the circumference= pi x diameter I I think the 53.5-60mm clip is going to be the best fit.

Phoned the main dealer today..yes the £9.48 is for one clamp not a pack of ten.

The postage was a bit steep for small quantities (£5.99) for HCL Fasteners taking a pack of 5 to £10.

So I gave Malcolm Lockwood a ring as suggested by Malcolm. Straightforward, at £5 inc postage and the clamp is on its way.

Thanks

Hi Neil. I have explained my issue in this other thread.

viewtopic.php?t=69407

Since you have already experience of this, do you have an idea if the two gaitors 527204 and 527233 are interchangable. I need the latter for my mk2 xantia estate, but 527204 is locally available. Otherwise i will need to order 527233 from france.

Wish I could help Aneesh, I did have the unused boot lying around for a while but probably sent it off to another forum member years ago. I couldnt be definite at all about compatibility. Would it be easy enough just to get the locally available one , match it directly with yours, and either keep it or return it for a refund. :?:

Is yours unrepairable?
