Agreed! Amazed that rusty and not snapped! (Given "corrosion jacking" a prime cause of snapping these!!)Rhothgar wrote: 23 Mar 2026, 15:28 Sheesh! That reluctor ring is in a right state. Hard to believe no fault was thrown.
Yes there are, first stab:I'd bet there is an online grade somewhere for general torque settings based on material the bolt is going into, grade of said bolt and shank diameter. 15lb/ft is not particularly a low amount of torque.
https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/metr ... _2054.html
But those are MAX figures, will keep digging...
Corrosion can have a fair impact on loosening torque needs!I once had a hub nut on a Saab 9000 to undo and it took all my weight on a breaker bar to shift it. That was 'only' 100lb/ft (or was it 200lb/ft?). Old age!![]()
Hub nuts (in Peugeot / Citroen land) typically 300 Nm or so (will look it up in equivalent lb.ft EDIT, Google says = 221 lb.ft

I've torqued the Turbo Support Bracket bolts to 15 Ibf/ft so far - can you confirm please![]()
Can you also see if the Turbo drain-off fitting has a torque setting (5mm Allen bolt)(I couldn't see it on your Haynes picture)![]()
BUT I believe that's the feed, rather than the return.Turbocharger lubrication pipe:
Engine side 30 Nm, 22 lb.ft
Turbocharger side 20 Nm, 15 lb.ft
Hmm, just to undermine confidence, that is under a heading:
Which would suggest there is a (different) torque setting listed in the preceding 2.0 section. So is there?2.2 litre engine (where different to 2.0 litre engine)
Nope!
Still looking...

406 Haynes has failed me, just going to check the 306 manual (as covers 2.0 90 HDi)

Yeah Cheers Matt That’s what you supplied earlier in this thread ….MattBLancs wrote: 23 Mar 2026, 18:19

Seems the BoL is being illusive with the torque data
Cheers for the search

Found it, 306 Haynes to the rescue!
First column = metric, Nm
Second column = imperial, lb.ft
EDIT as now the forum is trying to hide the figures too!!!

Re: XANTIA HDi RUNNING ROUGH
Just checked the 206 Haynes (which doesn't not have the potential for XUD turbo torque figures in the mix!) quotes the same figures to the 306 numbers above
EDIT hmm, might be 2 of them now, ah well!

Re: XANTIA HDi RUNNING ROUGH
Well today was meant to be the big day ....the sun came out ....I gave it a final checkover, engine timed nicely and remained timed after manually turning over 3 or 4 times....filled with 9 litres of coolant mix .....no sign of any external leaks....BUT no sign of the coolant level filling up either
Dipstick looks like the coolant has gone straight into the sump
I haven't started the engine....but I think I'm done ...the speed at which it's gone into the sump is alarming ....it's as if there was no head gasket at all although the fact there's no external leakage indicates that there is one in there
I don't really know what I've done wrong so badly but I might as well have a peek down the cylinders before I think about draining that mix out of it ...I imagine I can strip some bits off for anyone needing parts before it heads off to the cemetry
Not the result I or the FCF wanted but Thanks
for all the help and advice along the way (if only I'd listened to Jim, Rothgar, and ekjdm14, on page 11
and understood that just a replacement camshaft follower might have restored the missing compression on No. 4 cylinder).

Re: XANTIA HDi RUNNING ROUGH
Gary I feel for you, the sense of frustration must be huge BUT you've come too far with too much time, effort and cash to just scrap it without further checking. It may be something simple you've missed somewhere and worth at least some investigation before casting it to the wind. So shoulders back, chin up and have a think!!

Re: XANTIA HDi RUNNING ROUGH
Just thinking aloud: for that much coolant to go into the sump that quickly there must be an open path from oil ways to water jacket. What general car components have access to both? Head, block, oil cooler if fitted, PCV systems, turbos, inlet manifold if cooled, from that what is fitted on the HDi?

Re: XANTIA HDi RUNNING ROUGH
That is a rather alarming development !!!!!
The only transfer point I can think of would be the oil cooler.....but to allow that much coolant that quickly it would need to be gutted internally.....

Re: XANTIA HDi RUNNING ROUGH
Cheers Mick and Stickyfinger I've also had a chat with Jim for some ideas ....
I'm going to try the following and see what unfolds ...
CHECK RADIATOR FOR COOLANT via drain plug to see if ANY went into the radiator?
CHECK 2+3 CYLINDERS FOR COOLANT Engine No. 4 was at TDC and hopefully No.1 when filled with coolant?
DRAIN SUMP LEAVE PLUG OUT AND REFILL WITH WATER TO SEE FLOW SPEED INTO/OUT OF SUMP?
then possibly ....
COMPRESSION CHECK CYLINDERS AGAIN?

Re: XANTIA HDi RUNNING ROUGH
Oh heck, that is annoying - thought we were moments from a (positive!) conclusion.
Hmm, as per Stickyfinger's thoughts, only the oil-water heat exchanger/ oil cooler provides an external link between oil and coolant.
I don't think there's any oil system involvement where the "coolant manifold" bolts to the side of the engine - is there?
