206 REAR DRUM BEARING REMOVAL

Unread post by Fergal6816 »

Hi, I am trying to REMOVE a wheel bearing with ABS RING, on my 04 plate 206 - I tried to PRESS this out using the old fashioned BOLT and WASHER extractor method, to no avail.
Is it POSSIBLE to REMOVE both the old bearing + ABS RING at the same time ? (to-gether).
The BEARING has a 52mm Outside DIAMETER and the ABS RING has an internal DIAMETER of 49mm so the ABS RING would have to be removed FIRST to get the bearing OUT.
I am reluctant to EXTRACT / DESTROY the ABS RING as they are said to be BRITTLE and prone to BREAKAGE.
I would love to hear from anyone who has REMOVED one of these ABS HUB BEARINGS.
Thanks

Hopefully this video might help you out:
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Thank-you,
I did look at this video, but unfortunately this is a disc brake setup, and the ABS RING and wheel bearing are not the same as the DRUM brake setup.

Can you post a pic? Usually by the time the bearing is gone, the drum is also done so you just replace the lot.

With regards to trying not to destroy the ABS ring, normally they are cheap enough to replace.

A very quick look: £7.50 Inc delivery

Note the dimensions quoted are quite different from the 49mm you've mentioned, so please check to confirm it's correct :)

Hi, I forgot to mention that the OUTER MAGNETIC part of the ABS RING, is indeed larger than the steel plate which CONNECTS it to the actual drum, so the size is otherwise correct. I saw some for sale on eBay, and these are sold without the steel plate , which gives rise to the disparity and my resulting odd sizes.
There is a brilliant YouTube video showing the EXACT same ABS RING being removed from a FORD FOCUS.
thank-you for your input, it is appreciated,

Somewhat belatedly, a photo of the ABS RING still in - situ.
I was unable to upload this at the time of my original post, there was no indicator icon/logo that I could see, to allow me to do this .
I have now found the link which is only visible in the EDIT / review page silly me !

Agreed. That's an oil/grease seal. I can't see any evidence of an ABS reluctor ring.

Most (modern) cars have Reluctor ring in the bearing
