Yes Injector No. 1 in the Lexia photo was disconnected in the initial photo.

Cheers ...
Is that why it came up as a fault on the Lexia then? Be good to know if there were ANY fault codes re-appear after clearing them because permanent suggests a permanent fault.

I’ve since looked at mine and can see how short the wires are.

Rhothgar wrote: 13 Nov 2025, 16:49The solenoid codes may well be relevant. Have you messed around with any of the connectors to the two solenoids in the top left corner of the engine bay. Switching them around can cause issues. I did that once. In fact, I ended up having to buy a replacement on Amazon but I was getting an intermittent boost fault. Forget the code now.
All faults as a result of planned disconnections during testing Roger.

They all cleared and I left the ECU showing no faults of any kind :)

This problem very unlikely to be ECU related or electrical in my view.

Ah yes. I did see that but my short term memory is somewhat affected at the moment.

Interesting how Jim and I concur on ECU potentially. Check out those noid lights. Got to be worth £20 to verify the wiring / signal.

Haynes manual states 25-30 BAR normal pressure with maximum 5 bar between.

Seeing as my test was done with a cold December engine I think we can say No.s 3-2-1 are healthy.

So looks like No. 4 cylinder is the culprit that's just packed up whilst I've changed the Core Plug.

Looks like a winter head-strip to discover the underlying issue ....whether she gets put back together will obviously be another matter  ....

Theory, and what I noticed when I had core plug issue , I had white smoke , not all the time just now and again , the power was slightly down , so when the c3 picasso was having the work done to it and the core plug was found leaking that got replaced, I had better feeling when driving , power wise , and no white smoke. Now maybe the fact the core plug being changed and more power (coolant pressure) somehow has found a weak link in the chain and made that now fail ? If that makes any sense

I had all my injectors tested they were all at the correct pressure readings that they were ment to be at , so no issues there, I wonder if one of them was lower on its readings would that of done the same as what your xantia is doing ? , these are part theory's with actual jobs I did on a car (c3 picasso) several months ago

Huskyxantia I certainly hadn't noticed any white smoke prior to the Core Plug leaking, it's possible that the Head Gasket has litterally just let go at the same time and that extra pressure has finally blown through the corroded Core Plug, despite that it's not over pressurising the system now.

Still hard to believe that No. 4 was still running down at the MoT station, but has now stopped completely.

If No. 4 had been my worst Fuel Injector possibly...but No. 1 was the worst and now (currently) replaced with a new one, this made no difference.

In hindsight I should have done a compression check earlier but the other factors, hard cutting out of the engine, discovering the belt had jumped a tooth etc. all conspired to delay the inevitable top end strip down ....

At least a strip down would involve a new head gasket on rebuilding , plus the fact you do get to have a proper look at the whole thing when its being worked on . It's to nice a car to end its life. I wish you all the best and sincerely would love to read one day its all back up and running ( ive seen a few of these fetching 5k on certain car selling sites) so the end result could be well worth that nest egg .

Before you pull the head stuff some compressed air down the cylinder on tdc and see where the leak is coming from
