C5 X7 TOWBAR

I cant afford to pay someone £500 to fit a towbar, but Im fairly confident of fitting it myself except the wiring..

To be honest it will be for a bike carrier rather than a speedboat so I think Ill be ok. Just wanted to ask you, the better placed. and perhaps been there and done it whether this will fit and if I can just bolt it on?

What engine is in the X7? I believe there might be problems if it's the 2.2 diesel or V6 diesel. Something to do with the exhaust system? No idea about petrol engines though.

Will your number plate and all rear lamps be clear for viewing from the rear with the bike carrier on? You will have to think about electrics and a towing board ifnot.

Its the 1.6 Derv. As I say Id need someone who actually knows what they're for the electro part. I just wondered if I could bolt the one I linked on without too many headaches.

The ad says it should fit your car but you should check with the seller. Towbars Direct in Warrington also sell Tow Trust towbars and I have bought from them before living not too far from them at the time. http://www.towbarsdirect.co.uk/ Before fitting a new towbar I always paint them with smooth hammerite since they usually come in just a primer and will rust if not painted.

For the electrics there will be a plug somewhere in the boot area, possibly hidden behind a side panel, to which you can connect a dedicated harness. A lot easier than splicing in to wiring to the rear lights and running a 12 volt supply from the battery or a fuse box.

If yours is the X7 Tourer then, if it's the same as mine, the area for fitting the electrics is behind the panel between the rear wheel arch and the tailgate.
