Peugeot Partner Communication Issues

Unread post by PUG405 »

Hi all

I've just purchased a 2016 Peugeot Partner 1.6 BlueHdi that has a few communication issues. There was was mechanic/mechanics at it previously and it has had an ECU kit fitted to it (Unknown as to why this was done). It had a wire stuck in the engine bay fuse box, bridging fuse 13 to fuse 10. This was said to be allowing it to start. It did seem to be the case, as after I removed it, it wouldn't start. But it is now starting without it. It's starting and driving fine but the power steering isn't working nor are the wipers, with the power steering light on the dash. I have tried replacing the engine bay fuse box with one that I know is good, but it didn't change anything.

I have attached the fault codes from my launch diagnostics. Any help is greatly appreciated 🤯

Have you carried out a bsi reset and cleared all the codes since removiing the shunt wire you mentioned? If not that is the next step as some codes may be historic and now confusing the issue. So I'd adviise doing that and then scan again to see what codes return. :)

Thanks very much Mick. What is the BSI reset procedure again? It's a long time since I've done one. Thanks again.

Unfortunately the BSI Reset didn't work.. Just to add. The dipped headlights also turn themselves on randomly when parked. I've had to keep the battery disconnected. And although the wipers don't work, the motor was getting extremely hot, so I pulled the fuse for it.

I have attached pictures of the Diagbox diagnostics, hopefully may be more helpful.

Thanks again.

It certainly looks like you have a serious issue there but it may all be down to a poor battery/alternator system. I think you need another member with deeper knowledge than me to offer further advice. But check the battery voltage under load and post that figure up . :)

It's exactly 14v with air-con and fan on full with headlights on. Thanks for your help so far Mick.

Well that suggests the alternator is ok , how about with the engine off and just the headlights on?

That's just about OK too so I'm afraid we'll need someone else to advise from here on. Good luck :)

Only being 12.3 volts is low so I would charge the battery up and see what happens. It could also be low on capacity and if still the original battery it might be due a change.

It's a fairly new battery, it'd be unusual to have a battery sitting much higher with the full headlights on and the engine off, I believe?

The unusual thing now is the lights randomly coming on when it's parked with no keys in it and the wipers not working, but the wiper motor is getting red hot.

I suspect that you are going to have sort out the wiper motor problem first. It sounds to me like the motor (or linkage if it has that type of setup) is seized and that is drawing a lot of current. This excessive current over a period of time may have damaged the fusebox as well but you'll have to fix the wipers first.

Thanks for your reply Paul-R. I think it's unusual for the motor to be getting red hot without even turning the wipers on with the switch on the Comms Unit. I would've thought that it shouldn't be getting a live until the wipers were activated on the switch. Would this point to maybe the Comms unit being faulty and supplying a permanent live?
