C3 Picasso DV6DTED EGR question

Thinking of cleaning the Pierburg EGR on my C3 Picasso 1.6 HDi 90 2012. I had a dry run yesterday, getting as far as loosening the EGR mounting bolts. A couple of questions. Should I change the O ring? If so, what's the spec? Also, what's the black plastic unit with a long thin arm under the electronic bit of the EGR for?
