Memory jogging, one of the fringe benefits of the thread, along with the visual feast of nostalgic old stuff.

On the cigarette cards front a couple of examples retrieved from previous threads. Yes Ty-phoo didn't do cigarettes but you know what I mean! I like the narrative summing up "The Wonders of the World" in a few brief sentences!
I think this looks like the outside packaging of the tea which you cut out. I know in the 60's they did a series of footballers and you collected a number of the pics cut out from the tea packet and if you sent them to Ty-phoo they would send you a large colour picture to hang on your wallImage

Do you mean Lynn Davies aka Lynn the Leap?
I remember him from when I was a newbie apprentice & we marked out his long jump distance on the drawing office floor. :-D

No that’s Wyn Davies a former centre forward with Newcastle, who was known as Wyn the Leap for his prodigious ability In the air with his headers. Probably paraphrased from his countryman the long jumper. The fans would also use the old Manfred Mann hit The Mighty Quinn for the mighty Wyn, long before it was resurrected later when Micky Quinn played for Newcastle.

Way back in the early 1970's my parents bought me a yellow flock haired action man with plastic formed hand, he was a sailor and a talker until I broke it by pulling the cord to far out but I loved it bought a few uniforms for him and thought he was great, couple of years later i got this from my parents, a paratrooper.

Mine was dark haired and had "gripping" hands wow I ws in haven, two of them. Years later he emerged well they emerged from the Attic and I remembered how much I loved them.
So, quick internet search gave me the Action man HQ forum, THEY are on line now with pictures in peole garden bomb diposal in a hols with a bomb, GI, in long grass on a mission, so I stated posting images.....

I got a message from the Forum supervisor telling me I am no longer allowed to post Action Man images, as this is a serious site I said they are serious he could be on R&R OR undercover, they kicked me off the site.

Viewers may be pleased to know that there is an Action Man Road in Coalville. 8-) :)

"A housing development on a site once occupied by a world famous toy factory has reached completion with its road names chosen to pay homage to some of its most famous creations.

'Action Man Road' and 'Pippa Place' are two of the roads on the Coalville site which celebrate the iconic status of the toys which came out of the Palitoy factory."

Swedes would be amused at "Pippa Place".
Pippa Middleton is always given her proper name there to avoid embarrassment.

The Actionman up front with no feet or hands, I picked him up on a well know auction site for £8 including postage 5 years back, the price have recently come down a little you are now looking around £25 and up for a broken one, still a lot of money for a broken doll, If I remember rightly the feet cost me 2nd hand about £4 but the hands gripping new 40th Edition cost me £12ish for a pair.
Can you spot the imposter right at the back in the yellow jumper Hasbro guy, the rest genuine Palitoy, my old yellow haired talker is the Marine standing just in front of the artic explorer and the holiday buddy is closest to camera in the tank Commander plastic leather look jacker and black hat hand on Brutus the guard boxer.

Ah the days of childhood eh, with multiple theatres of war, we had the bedroom theatre protected from the wind and rain of winter and the lounge theatre biggest danger, a walking parent kicking actionman over and a whinging child (me) Awww mum!, but by far the worst theatre of war was the back garden not only for the difficult terrain but there was also a giant black cat which liked to grab them and and occasionally angry farther annoyed I was breaking flowers before the garden judges arrived, not forgetting the large shelled creature humans call a snail slithering on them.

Guess what has just popped up on youtube suggestions. None other than "Lynn the Leap" :-D
Familiarity phenomenon, unlikely coincidence or a new AI bot in town crawling "Remember these all our Yesterdays" on the FCF. :?:

Requires a click on this link https://youtu.be/b2R0UGw2cc0?t=50 cos the International Olympic Committee only want you to view it on youtube.

Of course at the same games Mary Rand also came home with gold in the long jump from the same Tokyo games in 1964. The Olympics with the most memorable theme tune although "la la la la-de-de" with just a hint of yodel from Munich 72 runs it a close second. Should I find them they will go on the Pickled Egg Jukebox.

Meanwhile here is the remarkable athlete Mary Rand

My memory tells me that Mary Rand was her married name, was her maiden name Mary Bicknell or similar? I honestly can't be bothered to check now :-D
