Both cooler fans needs to run with A/C on, for a Citroen Jumper/Relay III 2016 ?

Unread post by perfidus »

Hi all and glad to meet you as this is my first question asked on the FCF forum.
Since I bought my Jumper(Relay) III campervan (2.0 BlueHDi 120KW from 2016), I've notice that only one engine cooler fan spins when I set the A/C on. Is this normal for a warm engine (coolant temp needle stays in the middle of the scale)? The fan from the right side of the cooler as you look from behind the wheel was never on. First I thought is something broken in the circuits but both the fuses an the relays (F06 and F07, T06 and T07) are OK and both fans start when I bypass the relays contacts.
Who can explain to me how this engine (DW10FUC - AHP) makes the decisions on how to controls the two cooler fans?
Two mechanics told me that it shoud start both fans when A/C is running and engine is warm, but they are not Citroen specialists. This also could be the reason for a higher pressure reading in the A/C system, when engine is rev up, they said, when I checked and adjusted the refrigerant in the system.
Thanks!

This is how the two relays for the fans are driven by the p21 and p28 pins in connector 32V NR (BF01 fuse box) but I don't understand the schematics as where do this pins are connected, in wich ECU.

One fan will always be on with the A/C, but as for the other one, it probably does not require being on (to save energy) unless the engine temperature is very hot. I'd leave it alone.

Thanks for suggestion Mark. I will leave it for now, maybe will test the fans with diagnose when I'll get one to get it out of my head.
And the issue with the pressure of refrigerant, if it's a real issue, I think it is caused by a bad condenser unit, there are some aluminium fins missing from the cooling tubes and others are very dented by small rocks and other debris. I will probably need to change the unit with a new one.

Yes, you can always test it with Diagbox using an actuator test on fans to test operation, which will mean it's working. If there was a pressure issue on the A/C system it will likely go into backup mode and disable it to prevent damage to the system.

Got one Lexia XS Evolution interface (921815/C) and verified the cooling system with DiagBox 7.83.
The fan no.1 is starting somewhere above 80 degrees, fan no. 2 only with A/C on.

Before opening a new thread, I noticed that with my VIN number engine ECU was not recognised and two modules were not comunicating (errors on Airbag ECU and Instrument panel ECU) - this may be an issue with the older 7.83 version?
If I click on the engine ECU i have to choose between three options: DCM62_F?, SID208? and EDC17CP52_UDS?, the later is for a 180HP 3.0HDI engine. Choosing DCM62_F gives another four-five choices and I found my engine code (AHP/AH03) within them.
Readings from the sensors are coherent with this selection. With SID208 (guess it's a Siemens ECU) some readings are not normal.
I will try to install tomorrow a newer version of DiagBox and check if the two modules are comunicating ad ECU is recognised.

EDIT: this morning I've checked with a new version of DiagBox, the 9.68 Free (by Fantomel - thanks FCF). The engine ECU is clearly DCM62_F, but there are still communication errors with a few modules, I will go searching for them and maybe open a new topic.

If you don't have a full chip revision C interface (VCI) it won't make any difference what software you use. Later vehicles require a CAN compliant interface and some of the cheaper clones are missing essential hardware from the interfaces which is why they are cheaper.... So this is something to consider and check first of all.

I open the VCI and is full chip rev.C as in pictures, 12 relays etc. I ordered an adapter for newer Jumper/Boxer - S.1279 and wait to see if the VCI can communicate with those ECUs (instrument and airbag). The software version matters to me, because with the newer version it appears to be two more modules that can't communicate. But i doubt that those modules are corect (blind spot monitoring - not sure I have those). It is possible to verify the factory fitted equipment by VIN?

I have the van checked by a friend with an universal tester (tablet with touch screen type - don't remember the model) and the Airbag ECU appears to comunicate with the tool, with no error. This is not good as one seatbelt pretensioner is obviously disconnected from cabling. Of course it may be a resistor placed across the connector but I didn't see one.
The Instrument Panel was not in the list of ECUs, try to test all the lamps but couldn't find the corresponding test page.
