C1 2011 electrical issue

Unread post by Nickolm »

Hiya all

Hiya all,

Car was sitting for 1 month with cracked manifold. Manifold changed today. Battery black terminal disconnected. All good fitting new one.

When battery reconnected and car started all appeared good. Then discovered heater, power steering, wipers and electric windows not functioning. Head lights and indicators working and car. Radio works.

Any ideas?
Thanks Matthew
Checked fuses in engine bay and behind steering column fascia. These all came up green on the meter.

No other connectors were disconnected during manifold switch. Dashboard light show abs light, handbrake, p/s and seatbelt.

Any ideas or more info needed.

Are you getting a good charging voltage from the alternator with the engine running? shouldn't really be any less than 13.8v
Surely this has to be either a fuse blown or a main connector left undone/not put back in correctly?
Was it the inlet or exhaust manifold out of curiosity?
Would really need to take a look at a wiring diagram to see what is common to all the faults, would need your VIN to do this.

Thanks for the reply. Will check the charging of battery in a while. Literally did not remove any connector at all. Tested all fuses I could get to apart from two of the three hidden ones on back of steering column.
Will also try a fault finding gadget later. Sorry. Teacher not mechanic!
Agree has to be some kind of fuse or connector but didn't undo any connectors.
Was 3 pipe into cat conv manifold change. Only connector on that was on top of manifold and that was done.

A quick check on the PS & wipers circuits suggest in the under bonnet fuse box both share Maxi fuse 1 & fuse 4 and in the instrument panel they share fuse 12

Hiya

Battery not charging. Alternator seems okay. Took off top cover of fuse box in engine bay and a large metal strip between two chunky wires had broken. I assume this is a secret fuse. Doesn't seem anyway of replacing it? Soldered on a wire with fuse to join. Put in 20a fuse to test. Connected everything back up and issue resolved.
Does anyone know what the fuse strip would have been rated for?

The fusible link is rated at 120 Amps.

Does anyone know if this fusible link part can be purchased? Thinking my solder and fuse temp fix might not do it for long!
Thanks

The parts picture is not very clear but there is a 120A fuse listed but its £40.41
We still dont know why its blown, could be expensive if it just pops again tomorrow.
Personally i would just buy a 120A strip fuse & make it fit.
Something like this > https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196060128825

Hello,
Sorry for restarting the conversation but I was wondering if you could pleasd explain how you installed the fuse to someone who doesn't know much about such repairs?

I'm not sure on the rules for linking other forums but if you end up here with the same issue that I had, search for the "Fuses Missing?" post by 97Silverfrost on May 18, 2023 in Aygo & Aygo X Club on the Toyota owner club. You will found pictures and details on how to do the repair.
