Struggling to find anything of use, number 58 (described as "remote control door locking receiver" but also as "NPN transistor" in the legend!!?!) Makes an appearance here only as far as I can see!

If any of the numbers look of interest, give me a shout and I'll try to locate the diagram where/if(!!) they feature

Incidentally, no mention of Bosch or Lucas on any of the diagrams. Checked section 4.2 (fuel, exhaust, emissions control systems bit) and does mention both thought from engine codes listed suggests only non-turbo with Lucas , Bosch fitted to both turbo and non-turbo

The Lucas on the earlier ones will not have the immobiliser fitted Matt, it came to the ZX quite late in the day... Sadly Haynes seem to skip over things to do with alarms and immobilisers... I guess they felt any information may have been valuable to a potential thief so did not go too deeply into it... Or indeed into it at all :(

I can see we may end up dearmouring the pump to hot-wire the stop solenoid unless we have a bit of luck and the ELIT - with the right diagnostic leads - comes up with the goods. Fortunately, the Lucas is a bit easier to dearmour than the Bosch so that's a bit of a bonus :) Against that, the stop solenoid is not quite so easy to directly hot-wire as I believe it operates on a lot less than 12v so a bit of resistance will be needed in series with it...

The ELIT won't reveal the keypad code but it can clear any faults and point to what faults may exist... Happily, there are a lot of witness marks around the keypad buttons that may help us crack the code ;)

We have the 'classic' red and green on simultaneously fault which indicates a lack of communication between the keypad and immobiliser. We swapped the keypad and did once, on the old keypad, briefly, see what may have been a restoration of comms but only for a moment and it didn't last...

I must confess to having the bit between my teeth with this one and would love to be able to crack it ;)

Is there any diagram with 429 on it? Look at the ignition / starter diagram perhaps please if you would be so kind?

As Jim says it may well need de-armouring but I had an interesting conversation yesterday with a tech who reckons that it is possible to hotwire the solenoid by back-probing and bridging the correct wires from the keypad to send the 5V signal to unlock the pump and make it think the code has been entered correctly.

Also, I suspect there is an earthing issue so it would be interesting to know if there are any diagrams of the earthing points in the Haynes?

Me too.

See post above in reply to Matt.

I know you said looking at the Xantia manual is a waste of time but not 100% it's not.

It got me thinking - always dangerous...

The central locking in the Xantia goes back to the immobiliser and I would bet a pound to a penny that it does on the ZX also.

It could be something as stupid as a faulty switch to a door or central locking unit that might be causing the communication fault. I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

It was the central locking that began playing up in the car so maybe just maybe there is a common denominator. Resolve that and maybe resolve the intermittent comms issue. This might be to prevent someone smashing the windows on a deadlocked car and trying to drive the vehicle away. If it doesn't receive notification that the door has been opened either by switches in the A posts or a signal from the central locking then maybe that is what throws the communication error.

This is the problem with intermittent faults!!! Very hard to replicate and diagnose.

I like that way of thinking. It's to easy at times to plug in a computer and replace a faulty part without solving the problem of what made the part faulty.

Good thinking and a very good course of action to take Roger, certainly worth a close look... First check is the connectors on the alarm/central locking ECU. Also, check it's not been damp and do check the wiring to/from the ECU that may have got damp and corroded. The Xantia had multiplugs/sockets under the carpets that could get horribly corroded due to water getting in under the carpets. I don't know if the ZX is similar but worth checking...

Here you go:
I spy a 429 (fuel cutoff solenoid)

Sorry, missed mention of central locking, will dig any diagrams on those in the morning.

Checked the (mechanically related) 306 Haynes manual too = not mention of earth point locations in there either. Thought I'd seen them somewhere, wonder where now!

To help extend the search for diagrams a bit, some variants of the Peugeot 306 1.9TD used the same pump and keypad immobiliser.
