I wonder if anyone could help me.
Twice I have been driving my DS3 crossback and it has lost power (limp mode) and the engine fault light has come on. This has happened twice about 4 months apart.
The first time breakdown came and then had to tow it back to my garage and the second time, (today) I luckily happened to be close to the garage, so I could drive it there.
The garage read the code but the diagnostic report came back as
status: intermittent
description: configuration fault (warning! This may be a phantom fault).
They said the car ‘computer’ had to be reset. They did this and it is working fine now.
A few days ago my ‘low oil warning light’ came on, I topped it up and it went off.
The guy at the garage said the engine fault light could have been related to that and just messed up the system.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any advice.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Loss of power - phantom fault
How old is the vehicle? These have only been out since 2019, so if it's still within warranty, take it back to the dealer.
You haven't mentioned what engine this is, better still if you have the VIN it will save me asking more questions (please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff).

Thanks for your reply.
The vehicle is a 69 plate. Sadly, just out of warranty.
The dealer that I bought it from isn’t far from me but the nearest main DS garage/dealer is over 100 miles away!

Ok so for reference you a DS 3 CROSSBACK (D34) 5-DOOR CROSS OVER 1.2 PureTech 130 (EB2ADTS Euro 6.3) STT TYPE 8-SPEED AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
Unfortunately the engine warning lamp can have multiple reasons for illuminating and the cause will be accompanied by fault specific codes. If you get the actual fault codes from your garage this may help.

Re: Loss of power - phantom fault
Ok, so your mechanic is not using Diagbox which is recommended for proper fault finding as these vehicles have lots of tech that a lot of aftermarket diagnostic tools can't read, just so you know.
This fault is basically stating that the BSI has not completed a configuration properly - this can be caused if the BSI software has been updated at the dealership previously and it has not been fully completed. Sometimes it can take a few attempts for the update to save correctly.

Re: Loss of power - phantom fault
Thanks so much for this info.
I did actually get an update back in January and haven’t had any problems since with the loss of power- until today
The only problems I’ve had is the sat nav screen not always coming on and the windscreen and back window heaters and heating system buttons not working. Very odd things.
I’ll have to get on to the DS dealer with this info and get it booked in again. Just a shame it’s 100 miles away. There aren’t many DS dealerships in England , all spread out.

Re: Loss of power - phantom fault
Well all those issues you are experiencing are pointing to the BSI and until this is corrected you will continue to have failures and odd behaviour most likely.
If you reported this to them before when it was under warranty and they looked at it - then I would argue the case that it has never been resolved and has now led to things getting worse if the same fault was coming up. They would have a record of it I suspect. Once thing is certain you can't go on with it like this as you may have a more severe impact of the system failing.

Re: Loss of power - phantom fault
Sorry just one more question.. as the car ‘had’ its update in January and it’s out of warranty now, do you think they would charge me for this update? Any idea of how much these updates are?
I just hope they say they will do it again free of charge, if it wasn’t completed properly.
Many thanks

Re: Loss of power - phantom fault
I got in touch with them- sadly they can’t book me in until June but at least its booked in. I’ll have to try and avoid motorways until then!
The guy said it certainly sounds like it could be an update issue.
They said it should be free if it’s related to the previous update, otherwise it will be £144!
So I’ll have to wait and see!
Thanks so much for your help and advice Marc.
Have a good day!

Re: Loss of power - phantom fault
Hi, yes the £144 is the standard diagnostics charge, which should cover any software updates. I wasn't aware until your last post that it had been in for an update, but certainly sounds like they have confirmed this, so I suspect is where you problem is. Just keep a record of everything.

Re: Loss of power - phantom fault
Yes, it went in for an update in January. It had lost power (limp mode) once before the update in January. Had to have it towed to my local garage and they ran a test on it and couldn’t find anything.
Lost power (limp mode) again on Thursday, and there has been lots of strange things happening since the ‘update’ in January- buttons not working, boot not opening, satnav screen not coming on, limp mode.
So, booked in for a second time now in June to hopefully complete the update successfully this time so these problems won’t continue.
Cheers
