They do look rather lovely in white... I may be just a bit biased though - being a product of my (adopted) home town...

A video with a few characteristics that made me post it here for general interest!!
It is an American presenter admittedly but not as bad as many.
The subject matter intrigued me because basically he is endorsing my belief 'British is Best' :-D
I found it amusing to see his list of bad points at the end to be very contrived as there really aren't any truly bad or dangerous points at all!! :-D

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Peter
There was an estate of prefab bungalows next to the my school which were demolished in the 1970's. The locals assisted with the removal of fridges :-D Probably these Tarran

There is a nice catalogue of "non-traditional houses" with pictures here
Plenty non-trad construction houses in the North East and many survive to this day. Some after remedial works like brick skins.

Here's a type with an asbestos based construction Hawthorne Leslie

Name: Hawthorne Leslie

Here's a clip from a film I enjoyed over Christmas. There are a fair number of familiar faces to be seen and the theme of the film is the closure of coal mines in the northeast.: :-D

I nearly put this in the 'Interesting engines' thread, but there's more to it than the engine.

If you want a chuckle, then watch Jonny Smith's (Late Brake Show) new Youtube about John Dodd's - The Beast which is up for auction at the moment. 27 litre Merlin engine in a car from decades ago. It's the first time the complete car has been for sale as John Dodd sadly died late last year and his family have decided to sell the car.

At the time of posting this, the bidding currently stands at £32k

i gave Bob's grandaughter, who wants to be a pilot, an hour in a professional airliner simulator for her birthday and today was the day. The aircraft was a Boeing 737 and after her initial training flight, she elected to fly in and out of Gibraltar, an accepted difficult airfield, as her second try. This is her approach and landing!!! :)

That's pretty impressive :) AIUI, Gib can have the interesting feature of having different wind directions at each end of the runway. I've observed a few go-arounds whilst perched on The Rock in the past, and I think only had to put up with one whilst coming in to land. Someone once commented that Monarch (???) airline pilots were on a better bonus scheme than BA pilots so were more likely to land on Gib than divert - all untrue, of course 8-[
Mentour Pilot did a tie-in with Tom Scott in a flight simulator a few months ago with their respective Youtube channels. The idea was to see if Tom Scott (no flying experience) could be talked down by (Petter) Mentour Pilot - Line Trainer and Type Rating Examiner, over the radio. The answer was no.... when it was down to manual flying, and yes when using auto pilot.

This wont take long but it is a unique piece of footage. Some interesting reading about it here
https://www.britainbycar.co.uk/aldermas ... ol-station
On the northern side of the Bath Road (A4), close to the junction with Station Road and Grange Lane, and today marked by a lay-by. The spot lies about two miles from Aldermaston village, and approximately one third of a mile from Aldermaston Wharf.
There were no specialist filling stations in Britain for early motorists. Instead, petrol was obtained, usually in relatively small quantities, from a variety of outlets, including cycle dealers, hotels, ironmongers, chemists, repair garages, blacksmiths and general stores. After a change in the law in 1900 concerning the storage of fuel, petrol was commonly sold in two-gallon cans.

In Britain, the first roadside pump was installed outside the premises of Legge & Charmier (possibly on Abbey Foregate) in Shrewsbury in 1914 but, perhaps surprisingly, this did not give rise to any kind of standardised filling station.

...the initiative for the creation of petrol stations as we know them today, came from the AA (the Automobile Association) in an attempt to help its members obtain British-made benzole, an early form of motor spirit derived from coal tar and gas. Its sale was promoted as a cheaper alternative to Russian imported petrol
Amazing we have film of it in action.

Excellent find Neil!! The bit that struck me the most apart from the chap's uniform, was that he had to put his nozzle in through the window!! Could be a very smelly car in the event of an overflow!! :-D
