Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I took a few books to the charity shop some years ago to make room for a few maps! Now look what's happened:
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

That's for March when I run my first Ultra Marathon of the year Peter
I've just been told the most excellent BBC Timeshift documentary on OS mapping is on YouTube
I'll be watching it this evening... I watched it once on BBC4 and was captivated...

They do the opposite for me Mick... In fact now I'm unable to travel far I can dive into a map or two and pretend I'm enjoying a bit of travel...mickthemaverick wrote: 13 Feb 2023, 17:49 I used to fall asleep over my rally route planning maps, the ex-wife would tell callers I was OS napping!!![]()
In an area I don't know I try to picture it using the terrain detail shown on the map...
And I love studying old disused railway routes...

Happy Valentines Day one and all

I spotted this lovely display in Bluebells Florists this morning during my run

I say it's all very romantically misty and ethereal out there this morning - others might say damp and dismal
My pot's very much half full today
And I scored a Garmin badge for getting out there and running

Pleased to see my favourite Low Pressure Sodium streetlight is still clinging onto life...
I'm wondering for how much longer...
A lovely frosty, crisp morning here today

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
That's a terrible admission Peter
I love seeing them start up - the rosy glow of the Penning mixture to vaporise the sodium and the the slow rise to full brightness
I find LEDs very harsh but have to admit they do a good job - whilst they work. I'm finding they are shockingly short-lived and fail regularly around here and the council take ages to fix them. Same with our LED traffic lights... Many MK ones have one or two aspects 'out' and they blame a spares shortage... Never an issue when they used halogen filament bulbs...
Even in town, I need to wear my head torch when running in the dark simply because so many lights are out. Never had that problem with the old Sodium ones...

I've still got the old lamp if you want it Jim. I changed it because I thought it was faulty and for the lower energy consumption, turned out the cable was o/c.
