Worth trying some Forté "Cooling System Stop Leak" maybe.
Can be difficult to get locally but eBay and Amazon have it.
Doesn't clog waterways like some others are prone to do.

Yes the clogging is what worries me. I'll research how easily the matrix comes out , as Huskyxantia says, I think you can see at least the edge of its housing below the glovebox, so might be less involved to get at than I fear (if you listen carefully, you might just heat the underlying "please, please, please, PLEASE" there!)myglaren wrote: 05 Feb 2023, 17:14 Worth trying some Forté "Cooling System Stop Leak" maybe.

Brilliant! Wow, remarkably straight forward!
This is same job in a 306
(Not my picture, but have read up on this previously)
So you can understand why I was filled with dread!
I'll wait for autodoc's latest one off never to be repeated though actually very similar to last Monday sale tomorrow and likely get a matrix ordered.

Matt, I'm a 50 yr old man with an autistic brain, diagnosed 4 yr ago answered why i was always in trouble at school and growing up in general, i find if you think about a job on a car to much or to hard it jumbles up the reality of how straight forwards some jobs are . Id like to follow your task if you manage to photo diary what you do and post on here, that a be great .

Re: Engine mount , this looks iffy
A long time ago I worked with a bloke with a 306 who changed the heater matrix.
The matrix was the easy bit, dismantling everything to get to it then reassembling it all took three days.
Forewarned I let the garage do my Xantia matrix, well worth the £180 it cost.
If you are concerned about clogging, then a shot of Forté cooling system flush may be called for. Alternatively there is Liquimolly that Chris (White Exec) swears by.

Re: Engine mount , this looks iffy
I've given that video a watch and will change matrix. I also have a thermostat / temperature sensor/ coolant manifold plastic lump to fit, so will do a coolant change (as it's been in more that 5 years I think) and the two jobs together. If the car will tolerate light use till the weather puts another few degrees on preferably!myglaren wrote: 05 Feb 2023, 20:52 A long time ago I worked with a bloke with a 306 who changed the heater matrix.

To be honest it's been loosing coolant very, very slowly for a while, so this is good news as been unable to find any leak evidence, just a drop in level.
Good news, and also something else on the job list, hey ho!

I recall that if you were fitting a replacement Valeo heater matrix you had to also use Forté Stop Leak (to fill any micro leaks at the fittings) for them to consider their warranty to be valid.

As a veteran of many Xantia heater matrixes, it's just a long, tedious job taking all the dash apart and putting it all back together again... Not technically difficult at all but you do need to be well organised and methodical to ensure all goes back together exactly as it came apart and no screws are left over at the end
Give yourself plenty of time and enlist some help as the dash itself is surprisingly heavy and awkward to manoeuvre single-handed..
Just to add as a late confirmation, your lower mount looks in good, serviceable condition to my eye Husky... They are designed like that deliberately to have more 'give' in one axis and less in the other...

And another page to this cars life , the front tracking was out 5mm ns the passenger side was ok , new tyres after tie rods and lower ball joints and a tracking recheck done first. Camber at the rear looks ok but i will check that too . Its a pity the back can't be adjusted but i reckon there must be some way because there is always a way isnt there, now then hermes get a b*@^#_÷£$ move on with my tie rods ive got everything else !
