Unread post by gingernut »

Hi

Does any one know where I can source (new or used) a rear LED top brake light for a citroen c5 estate mk 2? At the moment im struggling to even find a part number.

Cheers

They are the same back end as the C5 Mk. 1 and sadly not available from Citroen. You can pass an MOT without it but I don’t like it either!

Part number seems to be 6350 P6. You can get them new on eBay but rather pricey at £95. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154520595605 ... media=COPY

Repair instructions which I’d like to carry out on my sister’s C5 one day… if I ever get round to it: viewtopic.php?t=34108

6350 P6 is still showing as available from Citroen parts James, £206.78

Who would really dream of paying over £200 for this? That could easily write a mk1 C5 off.
I repaired my old MK1 C5 one with the strip LED's you just cut to length. Was around £10 for a 5 meter reel.

Did you/do you do MOT's?
Just that I read somewhere recently that as long as two of the three brake lights work that it will pass an MOT with an advisory.

I remember repairing mine but not the details, can't remember if it was incandescent bulbs or LEDs. If it was LEDs it was individual ones I put in rather than a strip.

I think there is something weird on the MOT in that you have to have a certain percentage of the middle brake light LEDs working… or it can be completely not working!

At what point does a car with an extra brake light count as a fail? Surely it's extra, not needed, how would it affect the safety of the vehicle and others? Can't see that as a fail.

It's the usual - it may not be required for the MOT, but where fitted, it must work...

Yeah that is odd isn’t it. My C6 passed like this recently and couldn’t believe it.

If the MoT tester knows you and the car well then if they know and trust you'll fix any problems immediately they'll give a small degree of leeway in my experience...

I took it to a while you wait centre where they don't do repairs. I'm assuming the FCF tax disc badge helped and also the new brake line to rear right wheel helped. I think it may be a discretionary decision on the testers part as to whether or not it should be a pass or fail. If got interest in the vehicle and they see work has and is being done then maybe more lenient than a boy racer turning up.... Just my thoughts
