DS5 2.0l - Coolant Bleeding Advice

Post by gouldie »

Hi

I have a DS5 2.0l 1955 Special (65 plate) - had it for around a year and wow I've had a lot of issues but...i love the car!

the latest issue has been the water pump leaking, so this weekend i stripped and changed it, the timing belt wasn't overly happy too which for a car only on 72k miles wasn't overly reassuring but the coolant leak wouldn't have helped matters.

the engine all back together and the coolant added, I've tried bleeding thru the system and adding a head of coolant to try and force the coolant thru but the heater still blows cold, has any got a procedure I could follow or any advice on this?

thanks in advance

Rich

Do you have your VIN handy please (automasked on post submission) - is this a Hybrid system or not?

Hi Richard, that's fine - confirmed as non-Hybrid, so in that case pop on over to the resources section (link below) and follow the procedure for the C5 X7. It is identical for most PSA cars including yours. Note: when you get to the section regarding de-gassing, your vehicle is Euro 6.1, so DO follow the relevant part for Euro 6 engines.

Thanks for the Forum donation too. Any parts requests you need or parts diagrams, let us know as that will also cover you for up to 2 years too.

thanks for your help, I'll head over now and have a look, the only other thing is there more then 1 bleed screw?

I followed your guide on the timing belt and it was great help, very nervous on start up but had previous issues with timing belts (long story) so I wanted to donate to say thanks basically.

I am after a suspension set up for the rear of the DS5 as I'm making an air suspension set up for it and wanted to know how the bump stops were held in before ripping it apart

good morning, I'm after some more advise on this, after spending many hours on it last night I have the engine getting top temp but not the heater matrix.

I've found the second screw opened this and all seems bled put a head of coolant on and let it run and put the car on a ramp (engine higher). all coolant levels are at the correct height and engine pumping water even gone for a drive but cant get heat into the cab. the degas procedure I cannot get the fans to start (it was -1 last night so might be something) is there a procedure in lexia for this?

my thought process now it to either drain and restart or to put a bigger head on it (bottle on a pipe higher up to force the coolant thru)

There's not procedure in Diagbox - this almost 100% the same procedure for standard ICE PSA engines.

Have you considered there may be an issue with the air mixing flap? If not, the matrix itself may have a blockage. Some people try and clear them with water p[ressure using a hose pipe on the inlet / outlet pipes that go into the vehicle from the bulkhead.

what's the air mixing flap? is this the one electronically controlled for hot / cold air? i saw there's a second electric pump somewhere in the system or maybe I'm wrong?

it could be a blockage but it was working fine before the pump change but a pulling of hoses and blast thru may help

The climate control system with dual zone controls employs both air mixing flaps (to control left and right temperature) and air distribution flaps ( to control the direction of the air). These are operated by stepper motors which are connected to gears and spindles that operate the flaps. Sometimes (but rarely) the motors can fail, but more commonly the plastic spindles ot the gearing on the ends can become worn. This then leaves either the temperature or distribution on one side in the last position it was set.

If you are not getting any heat at all, I doubt it will be this, so back to the matrix and or the bleeding.

There’s no other pump used.

I've managed to get the system bleed but it still doesnt seem right and no temp in the cabin, so i gave up and sent it to citroen

the news that's come back is that its a faulty thermostat as all other temps seem ok on the computer etc. now they want over £450 to change this. has any one got any thoughts on this as it was working fine before the pump change.

also any guides / drawings of the system and how this thermostat works would be great

cheers

just an update, i have changed the £200 thermostat housing and still no joy, also used diagbox to test the actuator in the thermostat housing (all works fine) and bleed the gas from the coolant system and still no joy.

it must be the new water pump, it is leaking again after pressure testing the system so i will pull apart and check, but i've learnt a lot in a small space of time on this thing. did have a an issue where diagbox wouldn't connect to my car again last night after removing the battery i let it sit for 30 mins but still wouldn't connect properly....maybe i need to leave it longer as kept asking me to put in my vin number

I don't know which brand you got, but don't scrimp here - get a decent branded one if you can and avoid Chinese rubbish.

well after a few hours of strip down last night the fault is a broken water pump, the pump impeller is snapped in half! teach me for buying a cheap one (Ridex) never mind a new one ordered and fingers crossed all sorted by the weekend.
