I've been having issues with fault codes, my cars a 207 1.4hdi 2011 vin number VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

P1490
P242F
P2563

I have changed the turbo actuator position sensor and that has sorted code P2563 out.

So this morning while quite on the roads i decided to take it for a drive to encourage it to do a regeneration but unfortunately this did not happen as fault code P242F came up putting the car into limp mode.

I cleared this and tried again with no joy.

My car normally does a regeneration every 220 miles and is currently now 185 miles into that cycle, after this mornings 55 mile drive trying to encourage a regeneration.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Here are the fault descriptors - so your particle filter likely needs replacing or being professionally cleaned.

The turbo fault may well be caused as a result of back pressure in the exhaust system because of the DPF blockage.

I would recommend a professional cleaning service for your DPF, as they use special chemicals and equipment to deep clean these if you are considering this, or just have it replaced.
Fault Code: P1490
Description of Fault: Particle filter: Detected overloaded. The fault is triggered when Volume flow rate passing through the particulate emission filter above 0,025 m3/s (90000 l/h).

Possibility 1
For a volume flow passing through the particle filter of 100000 l/h, the differential pressure is greater than 60 mbar for 5s
Possibility 2
For a volume flow passing through the particle filter of 400000 l/h, the differential pressure is greater than 230 mbar for 5s
Possibility 3
For a volume flow passing through the particle filter of 800000 l/h, the differential pressure is greater than 450 mbar for 5s
Conditions for Fault to clear: Driving for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Deactivation of the request for regeneration of the particle filter from the diagnostic tool
Symptoms: No effects immediately perceptible.
Suspect Areas: Particle emission filter clogged or over-loaded

Fault Code: P242F
Description of Fault: Particle filter: Detected clogged. The following have to be in effect for the fault to be triggered:
  • Volume flow passing through the particle emission filter more than 200000 l/hr
  • Do not be in particle filter regeneration
Possibility 1
For a volume flow passing through the particle filter of 100000 l/h, the differential pressure is greater than 320 mbar for 5s
Possibility 2
For a volume flow passing through the particle filter of 400000 l/h, the differential pressure is greater than 700 mbar for 5s
Possibility 3
For a volume flow passing through the particle filter of 800000 l/h, the differential pressure is greater than 770 mbar for 5s
Conditions for Fault to clear: Driving for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle speed limiter (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again).
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle cruise control (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again).
  • Deactivation of taking account of the tight spot information.
  • Deactivation of the request for regeneration of the particle filter from the diagnostic tool.
Symptoms:
  • Jerking / stalling
  • Starting problem
  • Lack of power
Suspect Areas: Particle emission filter clogged or over-loaded

Fault Code: P2563
Description of Fault: Turbocharger: Position incorrect in relation to the setting, too much turbo.

The position measured is less than the reference by more than 20% for 4 seconds.

The following conditions have to be met:
  • Engine speed above 1500 rpm
  • Engine torque higher than 75Nm
Conditions for Fault to clear: Driving for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: None
Symptoms:
  • Noise
  • Slightly higher fuel consumption
Suspect Areas:
  • Turbocharger
  • Turbocharger fixed geometry control electrovalve
  • Turbocharger fixed geometry position repeat sensor
  • Electrical harnesses
  • Connectors
  • Clogging of the vacuum circuit

Hi

I took your advice and called a dpf cleaning company who wanted to charge £460 to clean it.

Somewhat reluctant to spend that sort of money, i decided to think about it.

And in the meantime my car done a regeneration, and all warning lights turned off by the car.

Approximately around 14 miles later "risk of particular filter clogging" flashes up and after a few times stays on the dash.

Got to work and done a live scan and to me the dpf does not look like it's anywhere near being blocked. The fault code I'm now getting is P1490 only no other codes.

Please see images below of the live scan on tick over and then at 2500 rpm

On a side note for some reason i do not get email notifications for my threads even though I've ticked the box...

If you click through the fault code, what info does it say about conditions when it occurred? In the pics above the oxygen sensor is reporting an invalid value - not sure if this is fitted, or if it even needs to give a reading normally!

Also, according to that it says the particle filter has already been changed 19k KM ago???

The differential pressure shows as 059 mbar. The differential pressure sensor is designed to show the range of differential pressure measured as 0 ≤ differential pressure measured ≤ 100 kPa on this engine / system (1.4 DV4C).

059 mbar is 5.9 Kilopascals, so this would seem to indicate the system is nowhere near blocked.

Hi Marc

Hence my confusion as to it being blocked, as I'm not sure how you read these scans, but by what I've looked up it appears it's no where near blocked,

But clearly the car does have an issue,

I changed the elroys fluid sometime ago and reset the counters but was still having this problem so it was suggested that i also told the cars ECU that the DPF had been replaced/cleaned even though it has not been.

Apparently this can sometimes help clear the fault but in my case it did not.

You've got 242 mbar at a flow of 66 l/s ( 237600 l/hr) - this would appear to be why it has set the code. Given that the pressure sensor appears to be working, it does appear to be a genuine fault. It would be worth graphing the pressure over a short run, along with the air flow to see if there is correlation. It could be a fault with the MAF giving shonky readings, but I'm leaning towards the DPF needing a clean. You can do it yourself with dishwasher tabs and brick acid - there's a vid somewhere I posted about it!

Yes that's the reading we were missing 242 Mbar... so in zone 'b' - overloaded.

"A" : Differential pressure (mbar).
"B" : Volume flow rate of exhaust gases (l/h).
"a" : Intermediate zone.
"b" : Filter overloaded.
"c" : Filter clogged.
