Looking for a part number for EGR valve

Post by DennyLoi83 »

I'm confused as to which one I need to purchase as there are so many out there. It's too much of a hassle to get to to take a look at the existing one. Is there any way of identifying the specific one I need? I have a 59 plate C4 Grand Picasso.

Thanks in advance.

According to the VIN this is a petrol model?
Does this engine even have an EGR valve?
Does your reg end in AZX?

Yes, no EGR on this it's a 1.6 VTi 16V 120 (EP6) engine.

If you're having issues, maybe an explanation of the problems may help and also any fault codes you have from a diagnostic. A diagnostic check should always be the first place to start.

Thanks guys. Here is a post I made a couple of months ago. It has all the relevant details on it. I just didn't get around to following it up:

I just accidentally put the following info on the other post (above), but i'll put it here too:

I should also add the following information:

The ECU under the bonnet, by the battery, burnt out in July and I replaced it with another one from Ebay. After that, these electrical issues (as described in the other post) starting happening. I then replaced the ECU unit with another one from Ebay, but the issues persisted. Both ECU's had the same part numbers as the faulty one. It would seem weird if both ECUs were faulty.

After that, I replaced the radiator fan relay as the radiator fan stopped working. The error existed both before and after I did this.

I've just been ignoring the errors and driving the car as normal as it doesn't seem to make any different to performance. The only noticeable difference is that the handbrake doesn't automatically apply.

Ok, I've locked the other thread to avoid duplication in answers and provided a link to this thread.

So the first thing you really need to do is get a proper diagnostic done (preferably with Diagbox) which will be able to read the more advanced systems that generic code readers very likely can't).

Once we have the codes we may be able to help you further. Now we have ascertained this is a petrol engine without an EGR, we can rule that out as having any influence.

Thanks guys. Do the faults get stored? When I turn the engine off and back on again, they all clear from the dashboard. I'm just thinking whether I need to force the faults to happen and they go straight to the mechanic, or can I simply get the faulty read even if they don't appear on the dash?

Cheers

Yes, the fault should remain in the memory even if the warning light/message is not on at the time.

Also there are likely to be faults stored in the BSI / Engine ECU that won't always trigger a dashboard warning. These will also be stored in the log, so even intermittent faults should be able to be recalled by anyone with some experience of using Diagbox or other suitable diagnostic tool.

From experience, most illogical electrical errors can be caused my battery, alternator or earthing issues. On my wife's 2007 Citroen C4, we were experiencing strange issues which turned out to be dirty fuse connections. The actual fuses had got damp (tree's and tree dropping bits storing damp... I don't even know how!!) so I ended up removing the unit, removing every fuse (having taken pictures to be able to replace the fuses in the correct order) and cleaning each fuse holder with a mouse tail flat file (a teeny baby file about 3 or four inches long in total). I replaced everything and off she went without issue. This was about 4yrs ago. It hasn't happened again.

However, if your BCM actual caught fire, did you check the multiplug connection for dirty (green) connections? Are you certain none of the wires melted, shorting out? Although, more likely it could be just a poor connection, resulting in "muddled" signals. Modern cars absolutely "demand" clean signals so any grot on the wiring connection will create issues such as you are suffering.

My 2004 Jaguar XK8 4.2 tells me the ABS and gearbox are at deaths door if the battery has died (common occurrence since it sits for years at a time), but once the battery is fully charged, it's "Hello! I'm back...!"

My advice is check all connections, fuse box, earths, battery terminals and so forth. Good luck.
Has anyone seen the plot? :?
