Berlingo B9 key.

Post by Baldythin »

Needing a spare berlingo B9 key after losing my key on a hillside and discovering it lost when got back to my car. Found it after a return walk but think it would be a good idea to hide a key in one of those magnetic boxes for placing underneath with a key in it.

Looking at the my present ones I have the VA2 blade on both (without groove) but the cases are different , one is 0523 and the other is 0536. Which one would have been the original?. I think one must have had a blade change, must have been the 0536 one.

Now what I want to know if anyone knows is if I need a ASK or FSK or does it matter ? Both keys work but one must be a ASK and the other a FSK signal.
I'd rather have the original signal one

Any ideas ?

They do matter - one will work, the other won't.

ASK: Amplitude Shift Keying
FSK: Frequency Shift Keying
PSK: Phase Shift Keying

They can't be both as the hardware needs to interpret the signal being sent - so needs to be compatible. Check the one that works and get a duplicate made of that one, otherwise get another fob and have it programmed (but you'll need to programme all keys including any spares together in one session , otherwise any not programmed in the same session will be locked out.

Your dealer is another option - of you want an OEM original replacement fob. Just provide them with your ID, proof of address, ownership like the V5 registration if you don't have the customer confidential card with you in the handbook.

Hi marc,
Thanks for replyiing ,

I understand what you say but as both keys work which one would I buy? It may be that they are both ASK or both FSK g

I've attatched a photo of the keys opened and labelled. Obviously a key has been replaced at some time , could there be a date code on the plastic shell or cicruit board so as I could figure out which is the oldest and get that one

The transducer coil thingy in the 0532 key has a small sticker on it "245 Coilcraft " . Could that be an aftermarket one. ?
I thnk if so, then it would be a replacement.
Ideas ?
Keys opened 0532 left and 0536 right

I can't help you with aftermarket replacements I'm afraid as too many often are incorrect (especially many of the Chinese ones).

If you want the correct PSA part number we can help you, but as we are charged for this data, we do ask for a Forum donation - though this will cover you for up to 2 years of parts requests.

If you want to go ahead, details below, then pop up your VIN (automasked on post submission).

If its just for putting in a mag box I wouldn’t bother with a remote key, just get a plain spare key with transponder. The advantage here is you can just get a clone made of the chip meaning you dont need the security code either.
Alternatively the Chinese keys are cheap as chips, just buy one of each & see which one programs.

I have seen the 'coilcraft' sticker on genuine keys before so that one is likely genuine.
That's not to say the other one isn't genuine, part numbers get updated & manufacturers change, it may have been replaced at some point.
If you went down the dealer route a new remote key is over £200 just for the part, a plain transponder key is around £50, again just for the part.
A mobile auto locksmith would likely be able to supply & program an aftermarket remote key for less than this.

The key I bought for my 2013 X7 from AliExpress was an ASK type. All posts that I have seen here about keys seem to also be ASK so chances are that yours will be as well. But, as Wheeler says, they're pretty cheap anyway so you could buy a FSK key as well. Mine cost £8.76.

On top of that cutting the blade cost me another £12. I didn't have any of the codes and those cost me an extra £30 from a Citroen dealer.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

That is what I have been thinking about , I dont think I need to worry if its a ASK or a FSK . I think that the ASK /FSK will be just to operate the remote locking as the transponder is not connected to the circuit in the circuit board . Its just mounted on it, and its that which sends/recieves the signal to allow it to start.
As long as the transponder is coded that would do. I'll use the blade that I've got (£20.00 to cut ) for opening the doors.
A local locksmith says he cound'nt clone it as the transponder is on a circuit board as it would'nt fit in his machine , unlkie the older Ford types that had a glass transponder in the key that could be popped out.

Its transponder bit is what I need

As Paul-R suggests I'll look at the chinese ones and see whats on offer. There may be one with a VA2 blade and transponder only.

You are correct ASK/FSK is only relevant if you are wanting a remote.

As for the not being able to clone, i've yet to see a key reader/cloner machine that is not able to accommodate regular sized remote keys, They are usually similar to the one below. Is he charging you extra for the transponder code extraction by any chance? How on earth would you copy chips from keys that are imbedded in the key head or in the case of the older Ford keys you would have to destroy the original get to get at the chip to clone it.

I assumed he was meaning the old transit/escort van keys where you could pop out the transponder via a small plug beside the base of the key where the shaft entreed the key handle. In the days of the ford red master key that came with every van, those were the only keys that I was familiar with , they will have moved on from that style nowadays

I think he was genuine enought and he didn't ask for anything. It may have been a very old machine/computer setup he has.(small town , maybe not much demand.) He did tell me to try a firm two miles away who may have been able to extract the code but I didn't have time to find them.

I found a complete key on ebay for £10.00 twice the price of one from china (6-8 weeks delivery)
