Central locking error? Car locking randomly
My Citroën C3 from 2009 is having some weird things happening to it. It locks randomly even when the key is in the ignition.
I've tried to localize this problem and I'm sure it's not the remote. I have had the batteries removed from it for 3 weeks and still no improvements. It's still locking on random occasions.
I've tried a BSI reset but no improvement still. Earlier today I scanned the car and tested all the locking and unlocking of the doors and boot.
There was two faults in the BSI and one in the Engine ECU. The one in the engine ECU concerns me as I somewhat think it has something to do with the weird behavior. I just don't know what could cause this problem.
Here are the errors: I hope some of you guys know what it could be and maybe some things I could try to narrow down the problem.

Re: Central locking error? Car locking randomly
Do you have the VIN of the 2009 C3 please - I'll have a look at the specific fault code.

Hello, yes I do. The VIN number is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].
Re: Central locking error? Car locking randomly
Do you have an aftermarket radio fitted or any other non original electrical accessories?

Re: Central locking error? Car locking randomly
No I haven't fitted any aftermarket parts. Radio is the one which came with the car.

Re: Central locking error? Car locking randomly
Ok, so it is having issues reading / handshaking with the key.
So if you have followed the reinitialisation procedure part in the BSI reset here:
BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure
Then check the fob battery. If it isn't working, then the fob itself may be damaged (dropping it on hard surfaces can cause solder joints to crack). I'm assuming you haven't been reprogramming keys or trying to download BSI software, so the fob is my guess at this stage.

Re: Central locking error? Car locking randomly
I've tried removing the battery from the key fob. The problem still persisted. Still there could be an error with the key?
I'll try inspecting the solder joints on the key and see if something is loose or missing.
I don't have any trouble starting the car.
When the error started the car was at a Citroën garage for a software update. As the mechanics there thought it had something to do with the software. The software update didn't help the problem.
Could it be an error in the BSI?

Re: Central locking error? Car locking randomly
Well I would take it back and report the same error - as now you have mentioned the fact that they were updating the software, it is possible that it has not been completed properly. They should know that software downloads can take several attempts - especially on the BSI. They should also have checked for correct operation afterwards, which they don't seem to have done given this specific fault code.

Re: Central locking error? Car locking randomly
I cant imagine for a minute this is a key problem given that there is no issue starting & the fault is the same with the battery removed.
Diagbox reports if the software update was successful or not & if you go in to the version it will show you the date it was updated & the version number. Im guessing they wanted to try this first before replacing the BSI?
Are you able to have the live data of the locking system to see if something is commanding it?

Re: Central locking error? Car locking randomly
I've not tried live data of the locking system. I'll try to check the version too maybe it wasn't even updated. Could the error be due to some bad wiring and if that's the case wouldn't the BSI recognize a missing connection?

Re: Central locking error? Car locking randomly
I haven't even paid attention to that. So I can't say for sure. The last time I scanned the car it was actually pretty rainy and the lock acted up that day... What problem can the rain cause regarding the central locking?

Re: Central locking error? Car locking randomly
Pug 306 tends to go berserk in/after rain, even dead locking us in the car !!!
Long story, but, electric window bowden cable had sawn thru insulation on 2 door lock wires meaning these 2 wires that normally would never be connected together, were connected together via the cable, and water, no w and again.
Also the door loom connection, inside the door, has verdigre inside the transparent terminal round block, and when damp, wires are connected together via water..
How can the diagnostic programmer write Code for that/those possibilities...

Was it the front doors? I'll try to check the wiring in the next couple of days and see if there's a problem.picassodad wrote: ↑16 Oct 2021, 09:38 Pug 306 tends to go berserk in/after rain, even dead locking us in the car !!!
