Rear Brake Drum

Whats the bolt and pitch size for the two brake drums holes, Where you can insert a bolt to assist in removing the drums.

I assume this is for your C1... it just states to use a T30 Torx spanner to remove the screw, then slacken the parking brake before removing the drum.

When refitting, torque the screw to: 0.5 da.Nm, and the wheel bolts to 10 da.Nm

There are two threaded holes on the drum where a bolt can be inserted too wind off the drums. Its those two im looking for.
One can be seen in your picture above. Just above your arrow, the other one is opposite that.

There are no dimensions / pitch listed for either screw Garry, and nothing mentioned about that for removing them in official notes, apart from what I mentioned in my last post.

Hi all,

Citroen Xsara Picasso 2009 DOHC 1.6 Petrol, acquired last year at 90k miles. Goes well.

Time to check the state of front pads and rear shoes (nothing on service sheets for last 3 years, so overdue).

Can't get rear drums off. I assume a lip has worn inside the drums. Any tips for getting the drum off?
Another thread mentions the use of a puller, but can't work out what size or where you'd attach it (not much space at the back edge of the drum).

Handbrake cable adjuster has been loosened off. Loads of crud falling out of the drum gap vacuumed away so the drum turns freely till you try to lever it off.

Any tips suggestions appreciated. Can the back plate be released somehow?

There was a similar comment in the manual I have, but I can't see anything to push, even when I turn the drum bit by bit from the 4 o'clock to 8 o'clock position and peer through the hole. Just the spine of the brake shoe ...

There's nothing else in the procedure, but looking at the handbrake adjustment, maybe this will help you see where the handbrake cable goes into the drum...

I don't know if it helps, but I saw this slightly more verbose description:

If difficulty is experienced, due to the shoes wearing grooves in the drum, insert a screwdriver through one of the wheel bolt holes and depress the handbrake lever on the rear brake shoe so that it slides back behind the shoe. This will retract the shoes and allow the hub/drum to be removed.

I think I understand what they mean. If you look at this photo which I borrowed...

The shiny handbrake lever which sits behind the brake shoe which is to the right of the photo has a boss that rests against the brake shoe when the handbrake is released.

If the shiny lever is pushed back (through the wheel bolt hole) the boss will slide behind the brake shoe, releasing the handbrake, allowing the shoes to retract a little more than usual and the drum to be pulled off.

Furtling didn't work, there must be quite a groove in the drum.
But will now try the 'shiny handbrake lever' technique ... thanks for the photo, helps a lot ...
