This is valid for Xantia Phase 2 - inside the front doors lock mechanism are two micro switches. One micro switch is for courtesy light and the other one is for detecting if the door is closed or open. If this micro switch it's broken the central locking will detect that the door is open and will not lock the car.
The rear doors mechanism contains only the micro switch for courtesy light and you can lock the car even if one rear door is open.

Maybe for Phase 1 only the driver door has the functionality to detect if the door is open and to send the signal to lock/unlock all the doors.

Sorry this has lost me, where would i wire the after market kit to then ?
My car locks and unlocks on key but im wanting remote central locking ... Lazy and getting old !!

If you already have central locking fitted what I'd do is find out the earths on the after market kit and earth them there be more than one, Locate the live that works the door locks and splice into that with the live on the kit,

Option 2 .

If its a full kit with the pump lock parts someone on here will give the correct name I can't spell that good, position these so they can push the locking bars up and down , your have to self tap them to small pilot holes.
Tap into a permanent live cigar lighter is OK, as long as you have a fuse on the line your be fine and earth it too.

That suggests that either a lock switch or the wiring for the switch has failed. When you lock the car the locking system takes a look at the various switches (to see that all of the doors are closed and locked). If it does not see the right outcome it then unlocks the car again. Try looking at the wiring in the concertina grommets to the rear doors first, as this is a known area for wiring to fail.

Sounds like one of the door lock motors has died, I'd also check the door wire looms from door pillar to door the wires can brake and cause an earth problem.

If you can and it is fiddly unplug each lock and see if the problem stops do this one at a time this should find the dead lock motor, the motors are not to expensive look on eBay.

If your thinking of an after market kit you still need to find the dead lock motor and replace it so the after market kit will work, I'm soon going to fit a remote locking kit to a 206cc I've got to find my live that locks and unlocks the doors that's if the bsi will let me, I then connect the kits live to that wire and the rest as like before are earths, Good luck with your locking issue .
