Xantia Central Locking
Hi Guys (again)
Xantia 1994 1.9TD
For about 7 years being having trouble with central locking. It works fine for a while and then throws a tantrum and doesn't work and then starts to work again. In fact, I've just checked my previous posts and I enquired about this a few years ago. Just wondering if there are any other ideas as the symptoms are now more exact.
So, here we go - hope you can understand it
I haven't used the key-fob thingy for years as it died (RIP) so when I try to lock it with the key, it immediately unlocks itself. Now, when I sit IN the car and lock the driver's side door it unlocks straight away but if I keep my fingers pressed down it does lock and then I manually lock the rear doors, climb out of the passenger door and press the button down and slam the door. The car is now locked (except the boot).
Now, if I get into the car and just press the passenger door button, it locks but doesn't seem to attempt to lock the other doors (just clicks down as if the central locking does not exist). My question is: should the central locking work by pressing the passenger door button as well as the drivers's door button and if it is not, does this point to a fault with the passenger door lock. If so, has anybody out there in the land of quirky Citroen have any ideas as to what could be the problem.
Fingers firmly crossed this time
Michy

Re: Xantia Central Locking
hi Michy..
I expect there is a break in one of the door to car wires, that is upsetting the system and banning it from locking all doors...
I have a feeling the passenger door, when locked as you are doing it, wont activate the locking anyway.. it probably would try if using the key.. (but the result will be the same, all the locks will bounce back)
I would be tempted to unplug 5 of the 6 locks (one at a time, maybe leave fuel flap open) and see if that isolates it.. i.e with one unplugged the car will lock normally..
I have a feeling you can try to open the socket in each door shut, to eliminate that door (there may be a large electrical socket that undoes by turning and levering/pulling off),.,. on an old car it can be a bit of pain
sorry its a bit vauge.. not worked on a 94 xant for a long time
others will have different and clearer solutions
John

Re: Xantia Central Locking
I have a similar problem! My remote still works but the locks immediately open again upon locking. It is intermittent. Using the key in the drivers door makes no odds as it still pops back open.
I can confirm that the passenger front door does activate the locking when the button is pushed down.
If i leave mine for 20 minutes and then try it again it often reverts to normal function and you can lock the doors.
If I'm not in the mood with dealing with it, I simply remove the 30A fuse at F20 (or 21?) and the cnetral locking is inactive - now it locks with the key after pressing down all the locks from the inside - but yes the boot remains unlocked.. you also lose the interior lights with the fuse out.
This and the alarm are the two major issues with my Xantia.
Where are these connections to remove to eliminate a door one at a time? Is it 'all door panels off' to access or can it be done simply with an open door?

Re: Xantia Central Locking
Invariably such problems of the door immediately unlocking is a either the broken wire as suggested or (as I have had several times and always on the N/S/F lock) a poor connection between the loom plug and lock assembly, remove the connector, clean connections as far as possible and if available spray with electrical contact cleaner, once done the problem has not re-appeared.

Re: Xantia Central Locking
It does this when it thinks one of the doors is not closed properly. I would guess that as the locking doesn't operate from the passenger door (as said above it should) that it may well be this door that is to blame. Personally I would start with that one.

Re: Xantia Central Locking
I had similar symptoms with my S2 Xantia, it was down to a dodgy lock mechanism in the driver's door. It would lock with the remote but immediately re-open. When locked with the key it would stay locked. Replacing the unit cured the problem. Half hours work and a few quid on the locking unit. No key change required.DickieG wrote:Invariably such problems of the door immediately unlocking is a either the broken wire as suggested or (as I have had several times and always on the N/S/F lock) a poor connection between the loom plug and lock assembly, remove the connector, clean connections as far as possible and if available spray with electrical contact cleaner, once done the problem has not re-appeared.

Re: Xantia Central Locking
When i got my phase2 xantia the off side rear wouldn't lock or unlock.
So investigation lead to me probing the loom to the lock then locking and unlocking with the Key only got me a very dim light on the old tester..
He's where it gets interesting i left it as it was thinking dead locking unit, after a week and feed up with the naff stereo fitted by the former keeper I decided to pop a unit in which I like and have had for many moons. When wiring up the speakers I found the speaker on the same door as the knackered lock wasn't working !!!!
So a cup of tea and. Think .... I took the rubber housing out of its location between the front n back doors (center pillar) wham there it was four wires broken and still just touching apart from the speaker wires they were apart ... Joined up all wires according to the number codes and bingo lovely sound in car and a fully working central locking.
Now all I need to to is work out his to fit an after market remote central locking to which wires GI where, I've fitted these before but only on a one wire system, Xantia has one wire for unlock and another for lock , I've tried 3 times so far and after fitting an eBay kit I just get the locking but no unlocking
Any help out there ?????

Re: Xantia Central Locking
Does the after market kit not come with wiring instructions?

I fitted remote kit a while ago to my S1 Activa. The thread should be here https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... 04#p545704

Re: Xantia Central Locking
S1 and S2 Xantias have different wiring for the locking. The S2 does not have a roof-mounted IR receiver.

Re: Xantia Central Locking
Hi,
This is valid for Xantia Phase 2 - inside the front doors lock mechanism are two micro switches. One micro switch is for courtesy light and the other one is for detecting if the door is closed or open. If this micro switch it's broken the central locking will detect that the door is open and will not lock the car.
The rear doors mechanism contains only the micro switch for courtesy light and you can lock the car even if one rear door is open.
Maybe for Phase 1 only the driver door has the functionality to detect if the door is open and to send the signal to lock/unlock all the doors.
