Hello everyone,
Yesterday I took my C4 1.6 VTi 120 Exclusive for a major service and visual health check at the local Citroen dealership. During the visual health check they found that the rear exhaust hanger is broken and is no longer supporting the rear silencer. They have therefore quoted me for a new hanger and rear silencer - at a total cost of £750. I do plan to ring other garages to see if I can get the price down.
What I wanted to ask was; can the hanger not be replaced on its own or is it part of the rear silencer? Secondly, is the replacement of the silencer a relatively easy job? If so, I could have a go at replacing it myself as I don't fancy paying hundreds for it as I've just had the thermostat housing replaced which cost me a fair bob.
Lastly, does anyone know the correct part number for the rear silencer and any additional parts that I'd need to fit it?
Many thanks
Dan

Hi Dan, I don't know the finer details of the C4 but here's a link to my post about the same job on a C5. It may help give you an idea of what is involved, Total cost for me was £85ish. Good Luck

Re: New rear silencer and rear exhaust hanger
That Citroen quote seems way too much for a rear box and hanger.
Any good exhaust outfit should be able to do the job, and at a fraction of that price.

I've just donated the £10 - is that OK for details of the exhaust parts?

Hi Dan - yes, thanks - I've been in the middle of a few technical issues with Diagbox, so give me a few minutes to sort this for you.

Re: New rear silencer and rear exhaust hanger
Ok, so here is the rear silencer and also the mountings:
You can use this to source an equivalent part.
As of today:
Flexible mounting (6) is part 1755L3 costs £22.74
Rear silencer (3) is part 1730JS and is £274.69
The Flexible mounting (7) is part 1613713580 and is £18.49
The Exhaust Front Pipe Sleeve (8) is part 173631 and £53.82
All the above are VAT inclusive but don't include fitting.
At least you can search on these parts.

Cheers Marc, thanks for that. Seems the parts are quite expensive on their own. I'll take a look aroundGiveMeABreak wrote: 23 Apr 2021, 20:32 Ok, so here is the rear silencer and also the mountings:

Re: New rear silencer and rear exhaust hanger
There certainly are savings to be made Dan, this was the first one I came across, which I don't think is quite right for your car but it proves the point, when I had a quick snoop:

Re: New rear silencer and rear exhaust hanger
I think this is the one for your car Dan, at least the silencer part number matches:

Re: New rear silencer and rear exhaust hanger
I suspect it's just the band that goes around the silencer, fits into part 7, that has rusted through. They are notorious for it and, suprise suprise, are not available separately from Citroen. However they are available elsewhere, eg this one, search on ebay for 383498149601
