Unread post by wheeler »

Can any PC techy type people here identify what type of RAM this is? I know theres a few different types. Its from a Windows 10 desktop. Im looking to get another one to double up the RAM to 8gb.
Tried typing some of the numbers into ebay but nothing helpful comes up.

Search for 'Ramaxel PC4 2400T ram' and you will get many options. :)

It's ddr4 type ram running at 2400 mhz, If you got onto Crucial's website you can ask them to scan your PC to find the correct stick.

Exactly, thats the problem :-D

So its DDR4? Does it have to be 2400 MHz or can you go higher/lower?

Also does RAM have to be in equal pairs or could you have a 4g & a 8g ?

It depends on your PC / motherboard as to what type of memory it supports and what speed it can run at and whether it has to be matched memory or not.

If you pop up your make, model and serial number, I can probably determine what options you have.

In my experience of upgrading I have always used the same. I imagine you could fit higher speed but I would only do that by changing the existing 4gb and fit 2 new faster cards. When I said 'many options' I meant sellers with the right spec ram :)

You've managed to get the camera flash reflection right over the sub-model which is important - can you tell me what the characters after the ideacentre 510S says?

Yes, I suggest you use the Crucial website, which can identify the appropriate memory for your PC. Further, you get a guarantee from them of compatibility. They are generally price competitive, and quality is excellent.

Yes. Typically laptop RAM is about 2/3 the physical size of PC RAM. Try to get as close to identical RAM as that which is already installed. If RAM cards are too dissimilar it can cause issues (the worst being that the computer won't even boot up). However, identical specced RAM cards can improve performance over and above what you might expect. For example, memory interleaving could come into play, seriously increasing the performance of the computer.
